Less is more ?

#1 Post by JohnMurga »

Hi,

I was looking at upgrading Opera to the latest version for my 50Mb build, but the 5.5Mb of the static binary seems just too much ...

What got my attention is that the 5.05 build (which still supports plugins (Flash) and all the modern features I'd want), is just 2.9Mb.

Just think of what I could do with the extra 2.6Mb of compressed space :-)

I also remember using 5.05 a long time ago and it seemed to have a faster and cleaner GUI ... Although I guess 8 starts off pretty clean.

Anyone have any thoughts ?

Feature list is here :

Cheers

I don't understand... as Puppy has the Qt library, v3.3.4, you don't need the static Opera.

Hey
I don't understand... as Puppy has the Qt library, v3.3.4, you don't need the static Opera.
The thing is that "Opera + QT libs" is bigger than just "Static Opera", and as Opera is the only Qt app I want for the 50Mb CD the first thing I do is remove QT ;-)

Your priority is in providing a great all round distribution that happens to be small and slick, my priority is to get certain functionality in at under the 50(51)Mb barrier while incorporating your fantastic work.

Cheers
