Further, adding "Shred" (available in "coreutils") to the ROX context menu would be nice too, providing a quick way to securely erase sensitive data.

alsa equalizer

#182 Post by Doglover »

I just installed the alsa streamtuner and am having trouble installing the eq from sourceforge. Alsaplayer sounds great but I would like to play with the frequencies.

Would be really cool if ttuuxxx would make a pet. Please Santa :)

......have you tried 2.14X
It has a tweaked verson of BMP with LadSpa
click plugins, effects and then enable it and select which ones you like, I'm sure it will sound better than windows, you just have to set it first to the way you like it.

wish for live CD to select video resolution automatically

#184 Post by Offenbach »

Something I love about computers is that they can do many operations per second. They can do automatic things. Total Newby here wishing that the live CD would pick a graphics resolution for me. Any resolution will do as long as I can see it. It could be changed from within puppy once the first boot completed. Might puppy ask "push any key if you can see this, or how about this?"

Think your grandpa or granny with a brain injury having a go at loading puppy after the third glass of rum, while minding a toddler and you start to get an idea of what it is like for the newby. Puppy is like an erector set, but my$oft is like star wars lego - it can only ever be used to make star wars lego stuff and if you get it wrong, you can't build anything. I like Idiot proof and I am sorry if that clashes with the smallness ideal.

Improving the rox filer

#185 Post by mistfire »

I noticed that the file management in puppy is tend to be difficult for the newbies. To solve that problem I set suggestions on the improvement of rox-filer. Check out this topic http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=50911

It would be nice to be able to position the columns as you wish. f.e. I would prefer to have name, then date, then size, then ......

Back to Puppy again...

Damn lucid ubuntu pissed me off ...It made it impossible to log in as root in GUI..

The old tricks that were enabling one to log in as root from Karmic are not working anymore..

Right...

What`s the deal with the new installer tingy and the grub4dos in the latest puppy image??

It will not allow me to make a full hard disk install on a ext4 partition

I never had this problem before with the previous images of 431...when trying to do a full install on a harddisk

So i guess high on my wish list would be to make that tingy accept an ext4 partition

PS: Please include the iputils package in the future release?? I know for sure that some of us are using it...
Of course if i am on Woof Alpha 9 i can just install it...but the regular guys...

Cheers

Hi Gorilla

Away for a month and you've forgotten this?

http://www.wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html

'ext4 4.3.1' brings up this as first thread

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy//viewt ... ea2041ad2b

see Barry's fixed init note

and this, which is 4.3.2 experimental, fixed to work on ext4

Sorry bruv...

The few Gorilla neurons left where completely busy ranting about damn ubuntu Lucid linx bollocks...

Man ,that pissed me right effin` off..

Put it this way, even windooze allows you root login in GUI...
This Ubuntu is gonna get worst that Microshaft...
You know they really did a good job

No more gdmsetup... No more passwd root ...

NO /etc/gdm/gdm.conf file.

AllowRoot=True

basically all the old tricks were not working anymore..
I mean ,what`s the use of having an operating system if you can not have full access and all that??

Rant over...

Cheers...

PS:Does this means what i believe it mean ??

Allow login as root over ssh session??

Do i need to disable it...Enhance the security and all that??

Doesn't the "#" infront of it mean it's disabled already?

It's commented out, but often config files use the commented out entries to show what the default settings are. So it would be a good idea to explicitly enable the option and then set it to "no".

Of course, that file is only relevant if you have sshd running. If you don't intend to ssh into that machine, disable sshd (or even uninstall it). You could still use the machine to ssh into other machines even if you disable sshd. The sshd program is only what allows other people to ssh into your machine.

How you disable sshd depends. In Puppy, it would normally have s script in /etc/init.d/ that you could remove or make non-executable, but it might be started from /etc/rc.d/rc.local instead.

Thanks for the clarification Pizzasgood. I've never used ssh much anyway, that's good to know.

automatic switch ramdisk/on demand

#197 Post by navegante »

I wish from the Puppi Linux Santa Claus in the future that Puppi recognizes real old scrapware (in the 1rst. world) and in that case (and only in that case) doesn¨t load all into ram, only what is needed for the beginning and then on demand what is called is loaded and unloaded from ram if not needed any more. It could have a warnings like "You are going out of space" or "You are going out of ram" "Please close any programm before opening a new one".
What today are old computer (P3, 500Mb ram) in five years are scrapware in the 1rst. world but not everywhere. There are a lot of P1 computer with 32 MB ram still working with win98 (no more supported) in which a nearly up to date Puppi Linux doesn t fit. In the school of my daughter in South America are 10 of them. I couldn t load nothing except Damn Small Linux what really is not an option for kids. If Puppi could recognize such hardware and switch to work on-demand......
Surely those P1-Scrap are condemned to have W98 to the end but todays old computer could live a bit more, do their job with up to date sw. Maybe for ecological reasons too, a step backwards from extintion, less junk in the toxic mountain.
I´m writing this whith a Puppilinx 4.3.1, I tried 4.3.2 too (nearly the same). Both are stable for me and I like it minimalistic as it is with no gadget.. Woof is a great idea. Congratulations.
Best Regards.

msdos disklabel reading implementation on puppy

#198 Post by mistfire »

I suggest on the next release of puppy that it must have ability to read the msdos disk-label on storage devices (if the storage device has a disklabel on it) and show up on screen (just like on KDE or Gnome) beside the "sdxN" to avoid confusion when plugging or detecting more than one storage devices and the drives can easily identify and distinct. The concept is just like this:

when you plug or detect storage devices. Instead of "sdxN" appear on desktop, it should be "(sdxN)My Drive" which is the same as "(E:)My Drive" on Ms Windows.

Add or link to this free artillery game

#199 Post by Viking62 »

:)
Hello guys-
I was wondering if you could include Scorched3d (turn based artillery game-Online & offline play) in a upcoming version of Puppy. We have a new version coming out shortly *V43*. Contact "Gavin Camp" for particulars concerning this game (Is free for all to d/l & play). Webpage located here: http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/index.php *Game typical download sizes= 50-70mb. (a link probably would suffice as well)*

YouTube action links from ingame play= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIOBQbJB7jk , http://www.youtube.com/user/SuperViking ... mu8I1IrafU ,

v43 preview= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbOCNrw8dgc
Scorched3d on MODDB= http://www.moddb.com/games/scorched3d/i ... corched3d2

Thanks for your consideration,

Could anyone help me make a puplet for this game (Scorched3d)? New/better version coming out shortly... Devs are working final bugs out atm. This would be a great game for Puppy users. Can play online/offline...slow or fast computers & slow/fast internet is ok (I played since 2006 on dial up)=LOL
Any help from this community would be greatly appreciated
