[UNOFFICIAL] Puppy 4.3.2 Snapshot (26/3)

#1 Post by Iguleder »

Updated on 26/3 ... changed the kernel from 2.6.33.1 to 2.6.30.5 and replaced the themes with all 4.3.1 themes.

Just a current Puppy 4.x built with Woof (built on 26/3), the version number is 4.3.2, because it's almost same as the experimental 4.3.2 Barry released, but with the new network wizard and all the nifty tricks Barry added since then.

Everybody who knows me will agree that one of my traits is my adventurous spirit and lack of patience, so here it is: the latest Puppy 4.x, for testing. Be careful when you touch it, your finger might become a bleeding edge

The kernel is same as 4.3.1's (2.6.30.5) and the themes are the ones used on 4.3.1, so they're seemingly identical. This wooflet and 4.3.1 should be 100% compatible.

It comes as one ISO with everything, no zdrv, with all modules, nothing stripped, nothing removed ... pure vanilla Woof-Puppy, with two exceptions: Flash 10 is included and the Flashblock addon for Seamonkey is removed (simply because it wasn't included with 4.3.1).

And just in case you haven't noticed, THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL 432! THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL 4.3.2, DPUP, APUP, SPUP, ROFLPUP, WHATEVER! This is just a simple "snapshot" of the Puppy 4.x, built by the latest Woof.

It has bugs here and there: report any bugs you find, as they may help the 4.3.2, 4.4, 5.x and Quirky development. That's the main reason I uploaded this wooflet.

If you find ways to fix those bugs, post them too.

ISO: here (112 MB, md5: b3ca311232180e3cf1fd761723e2c867).
devx: here (91 MB, md5: 50bf34911b0b5a6146c8cea355793a5a).

Have fun

Current list of bugs:
- Abiword crashes when selecting Format->Create Modify Styles (confirmed).
- Sound can be played from only one application at a time (unconfirmed).
- Network wizard problems (unconfirmed).
- Keyboard layout wizard does not apply the layout switching key combination in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (unconfirmed).

Next version:
- Updated Abiword. A good, working PET, anyone?
- (Maybe) Seamonkey 2, PET, anyone?
- Updated applications here and there.

Thanks but there is a huge difference for newbies.

doesn't both puppy431 std and the experimental nonofficial that Barry made have Flash by default.

It could be me not knowing how to but Flash works for me in both of the others but not in your version. Apart from that it is what you told us.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Has a different kernel...so it's not the same.

Which of the nifty tricks that barry added since when are included?

Shutdown improvements, new network wizard ... and all those tiny things. I'll rebuild this wooflet with 2.6.30.5 and the 4.3.1 themes if anyone is interested

I'm using the experimental version....I'd like to test the "fixed" version.

Thanks

I found many bugs in it ... my network connection settings are not saved, I can't hear sound from 2 applications at the same time ...

I'll leave this for now, at least until Barry decides about the future of 4.x.

Both. Also, keyboard layouts don't work, in addition to sound to sound issues and networking issues.

Haven't noticed the sound issues with Barry's experimental version....but I only listen to internet streams. The network settings for the lan are saved...but not the wireless lan.

Did a quick test and Seamonkey is missing the "File Edit "etc bar.
Also Abiword still crashes when I select Format-Create Modify Styles.
It did recognize my SCSI ZIP-250 drive so SCSI is working.

The old kernel directory from the previous build is there and populated as well as the 2.6.30.5 kernel directory.
Also there is a BUILD directory that is there and populated.
Both the previous kernel directory and the BUID directory could be removed to cut down the size.
With Puptelly, there were flashes in the picture.

Hia Chris

There's a little button at the bottom of the main pupRadio window that says "Radio www"... click it mate... remember 1 click.. it opens your browser and takes you to "Mike's Radio World".. (no relation  )... click the "Australia" link and scroll through... Find the url you want and copy it to the URL box in pupRadio.... click "Play Now!" and see if it works. If it does give it a name (er "Name" entry) and save it as a Preset (Save as Preset button), of which you can choose from the dropdown which number to replace OR as a Bookmark (Save as Bookmark button).. you can save a bunch of them. The window will then refresh with your new radio station.

If you can think of a way to make it simpler, please suggest on the pupRadio thread (see sig  ).

Cheers

Where are they? I've been looking for the reason for the huge size and couldn't find it.

PLEASE submit more bug reports, this thread can be extremely useful for Barry with 4.3.2 or for the 4.4 developers.

No it's good Mick.

I use Radio Sure Portable in Windows.
Add it to repaired comps too.
Excellent..
So yeah! I knew what to do.

But for a country bumpkin station they have a great
and varied playlist.
Good on you bumpkins...city stations are crap.

Yours is pretty good mate.

Can't detect the Moz problem.

Sorry, that was my bad!
I had tried it with a previous pupsave file.
The big size is most likely due to including all the modules.

As to other things, abiword needs upgrading as it still has the crash when selecting Create or Modify Styles.

Adblock IS in Seamonkey.
In the lower right hand corner is a dotted underlined word "Disabled"
If you right-click on it, a menu will appear that lets you enable Adblock.

Abiword 2.8 and SeaMonkey 2.03

#19 Post by tazoc »

There are 3 Abiword 2.8 pets here: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... packages-5. I've included them in the latest Lighthouse Pup.

I found that replacing SeaMonkey 1.1.18 with 2.03 breaks PuppyBrowser, so I created a SeaMonkey 2.03 profile with Tools | Switch Profile, named 'bareview' (in /root/.mozilla/seamonkey) with the navigation and status bars hidden, edited /usr/local/bin/bareviewshell

Code: Select all

if [ "`pidof seamonkey 2>/dev/null`" ]; then
 seamonkey -P bareview "$@"
else
 seamonkey -P bareview -no-remote "$@"
fi
and symlinked bareview, gtkmoz and PuppyBrowser to bareviewshell. I got SM 2.03 from http://www.seamonkey-project.org
