Hi guys,

It´s like the regular Puppy ISOLINUX, one graphic screen thats shown for 5 seconds (can be called again via F1) and the two regular text menus (F2 and F3).

To have a permanent background at boot, there are some solutions that can be used in full installs with GRUB, like Splashy http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/wiki/, but it´s a little tricky to implement it.

Hi,

In my research for a bootsplash, I found a nice trick. :P

When I edited the ISOLINUX.CFG file to add the new bootscreen, I note that some parameters can be passed to the kernel, then I added the max_loop=20 parameter and after a frugal install I could load nine SFS files without passing that parameter to GRUB. It´s really nice cause you don´t have to use GRUB and manually add the max_loop parameter to the menu.lst file, the ability to load up to 20 SFS files is transparent for new users. (remember I hacked the initrd.gz long time ago to add that feature to 214X  )

Here is other nice bootsplash, puppyluvr courtesy:

Which is better?

In a way, splash2 is quite funny and amusing :) but, in the long run, repeated telling of the same joke (like at every CD boot-up) tends to superimpose a stale taste on the original joke  :).

So, in review of the above, and for the sake of avoiding devastating blasts from our local amazons , I'd vote for the (gender neutral) splash1.

Whilst I can appreciate the artistic merit of splash2 :-) I tend to agree with MHHP.

Clarf, yes I agree it's a bit quiet here and I guess we have to expect that'll be like it for a while as ttuuxxx has taken on the challenge of making 4.3.2

I guess we'll have to try to keep the plates spinning whilst 4.3.2 takes up his main focus.

Cheers
Dave

hi guys, Yes I'm doing 4.3.2, probably if all goes well I'll be finished of it today, maybe with a little help, lol Its just to buy time for 5 series and its not a shift to another version, I'll be back on 2.14X either later today like 18hrs later, or sometime tomorrow, still a few bugs left.

Clarf, this is what I miss from 4.21. I'm not sure if its a boot splash or not but I only use the grub from 4.21 b/c is had this feature in it.

My objection would only concern the main release  I'm sure you could find an image where the burning logo is even less conspicuous :D :D

I could tell by the fierce look in Mrs MHHP's eyes, her knuckles whitened from the hardening grip of the menacing saucepan, that not everybody would immediately take to liking this particular genre of artwork :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hi guys I don't think a lady holding a MS image is the way to go, nice for the men but not so nice for ladies.
I like the look of the grub2 just never dived into it, Did it need some extra libs or something? I also liked clarf's first image. Clarf you started this, you can decide. Just no women, lol

Nice one! Now, if the perspective/viewing point was from the side/above, so you'd get an uncontrollable urge to just slam that button .......... That'd make the ultimate boot-splash to go with the beetle :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

OK, the people has spoken. :D I uploaded the needed files to add bootsplash screen to Puppy 214X using splash1.

I was searching for new images but after all I feel the neutral and fresh look of splash1 is fine, still don´t know if I should add a "214X" text or something like that, but that open new questions:

Are we going to have our own logo?, are we going to change the 214X brand?. Are we a fork?
