@rcrsn51

Thanks for the tip about installing the Brother DCP7030 printer.
I didn't know of the existence of this pet for debbi.

Maybe it ought to get included in Quirky?

Running pfix=ram from the cd, boots ok and looks really nice and no problem with the video probe would love to install and put it through its paces but the show stopper for me is no built in wireless found on my Toshiba Satellite.
This has been cured with the 432 release by ttuuxxx, but i cannot find what the difference is between the two releases.

Odd screen resolution 1600x900

#43 Post by JOff »

MSI box with Atom and Intel graphics.

Quirky 018 booted well and looks good.
I can confirm the menu closing after a few seconds, normally I would not have recognized that but when slowly browsing the menus for unknown items it happens.

My LCD has a physical resolution of 1600x900. It should also be fine with the graphics card.

I had to resort to 1320x760 as the resolution with the least distortion (looks O.K.).

How can I force the correct resolution from the beginning?

PartView missing

#44 Post by ecube »

I noticed that PartView was missing.

For Official 4.3.2 ttuuxxx has accepted to update PartView using the attached pet. My argument was:"Showing all drives as default is slow on low-end hardware."

Ignoring the buglets everything works fine.
Keep up the good work.

The only thing is, that when you switch to all drivers the other screen stays open, so you have 2 screens, that was why I didn't include your latest. If you get it to close the screen and only display 1 at a time, that would be much nicer, great work by the way :)

The strange thing about fbpanel is that the window opened only shows on the taskbar when minimized, if I have 10 windows open and none minimized then it shows no open windows on the taskbar, Kind of strange to get used to. What about lxpanel?

Hi

Yes - noticed the same - have not worked out the change page
proceedure yet - Alt+something I suppose.

But - overall isn't it really nice generally - just a smallish learning
curve.

EHCI Host controller

#49 Post by GrumpyWolfe »

Hi all hope you can help me trying out quirky 018 and a lot of things are just plan working the way they are suppose to. The only problem I have I have always had. I have a Acer Aspire one net-book and the card reader does not work can not mount no matter what I try but I am not that good at this kind of thing. This much I have found out when you plug in a sd card it shows up in hardware under the ehci host controller and pmount does not see it. So here is a picture of it.

Any help will be much appreciated.[/url]

Problem with the built-in Seamonkey 2.0.4. email client.

It does not attach files at all. I've tried using a fresh /root/.mozilla/seamonkey/+++defaultprofile, but it has no effect.

edit: Just tried the version downloaded from mozilla.com
It attaches files OK - so problem might be in the compile options for Seamonkey

Fbpanel Menu automatically closes every so many seconds when your slowly "cruisin" the menu. I personally find this annoying.

Basically this is Bugmans fault. :?

The same Windowing system is used in Fatdog64 and I seem to remember the same thing happened but no longer in the Beta, so maybe Kirk remembers the solution?

I am very happy to report I got Precord working
by using a USB headset
- recording is something I try in every Puppy.
The last one I got the mic working in was Teenpup.
So I am pleased . . . 8)

As a personal preference I prefer the way Ttuuxxx has configured
Seamonkey2 in Puppy 4.3.2 v3 but I am very happy to be using Seamonkey2 - as something was wrong with the earlier Seamonkey
we were using . . . it crashed every 15 minutes (for me) when streaming vids from Youtube or the BBC

This seems to be the basis of a rock solid core Puppy 5
from which new woofery and puplets can emerge . . .

.docx files in abiword

#53 Post by jrb »

Quirky's abiword 2.8.1 does not successfully open .docx files, showing only gibberish. :(

This is in contrast to technosaurus 2.8.1 and 2.8.2 for puppy4 and also lupup's 2.8.2 which all do excellent jobs of opening these files.

Other than that I'm loving it! Nice look and OpenBox+fbpanel seems totally compatible with all my old .pets and mods. :D

Hi

Agreed - Abiword should be 2.8.2

Otherwise - outstanding - IMHO
(Acpid works well)

Touchpad problems. Slow movements is easily fixed by tweaking xorg.conf but to enable touchpad tabbing I havent found any solution. Clicking enabled from mouse config does not have any effect. I have tried adding rows to xorg.conf suggested by google searching but no effect. Does anybody have working solution ?

Gnome-player works fine. Handles subtitles easily and opens and plays xvid avis fine. No need to install vlc. Great work !!!

Touchpad tabbing. I got it working. I have included my working xorg.conf attachment.

I made changes to Section "ServerLayout":

Code: Select all

InputDevice "Synaptics Mouse" "SendCoreEvents"
And to Section "InputDevice", Identifier "Synaptics Mouse" I added two rows:

Code: Select all

Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "TapButton1" "1"
If you need to use modified xorg.conf, backup it, because you lose changes if you run xorgwizard.

Hi Barry
When you left click on freememory applet you have 3 choices, help, partview, KP, only partview is working, usually I change KP to Pprocess, and remove the help and replace it with set time&date, would be handier if set time and date were an option on the clock, actually if ever you want to rewrite sometime, a clock with selectable 12/24 hr format and setting time and date as a right or left click option would be great. We have had in the past tons of "How do you change 24hr format to 12" request on here.
