User have previously posted links to the free Acronis for Seagate hard disks.
Western Digital also has their version (and some articles have indicated that these packages are limited to operating on the specific HDD brand, so you may need one for each...yuck!...)

I know the Seagate "Seatools Desktop" diagnostic floppy works with any HDD.
And that was long before Maxtor merged with Seagate.
If it turns out that is the case, Western Digital also has a version.
I haven't had a chance to try either of them yet (I've been fighting with Debian, Puppy, BootItNG, and System Rescue to make a new HDD function/layout the way I want it -- at the moment, the winner is System Rescue 1.5.2).
