Gdmap report of memory use confusing

#1 Post by donde »

I have Puppy 1.0.8 R1 on a 128 MB USB memory stick and it boots very well. But, still confused why Gdmap show only about 7 megs left. Haven't installed any more applications than the default. I really thought that Puppy would consume about 60 megs and the rest would be for user files. But, I guess I didn't understand "How Puppy Works". Would someone clarify?

In general Linux and I think Puppy too grabs all available memory - ready for usage . . .

So if using 512meg or Ram you would get similar results . . .

Is that right? Prepare for hardcore answers . . .
