From repo I installed first time succesfully mplayer and gnome-mplayer frontend with all suggested lib depencies. Previously depencies installation failed with some libs. I did run gnome-mplayer from terminal and installed the rest missing depencies. After that gnome-mplayer worked flawlessly !!!
Video ok, sounds ok and most important subtitles selection worked on the fly. My previous efforts with manual depencies installation had caused that after subtitles selection gnome-mplayer went unresponsive and video went jerky. Now it works fine and more important all the needed suggested depencies were installable.
That is good news pemasu, Did you happen to get a list of files or anything? I would like to make a pet to put into QuickPackage.

I put the foomatic-db into 111; I hope that does it with the printing--but from messages I can see that it should have Ghostscript also--that may have been left out in the upgrade around 007. I will get it in 112. Thanks.

Updating my post from 4 hours ago, about browser crashes: I have downloaded Lupu 111 (you've lost me on the numbering!) and am now testing it. So far so good.

I started with a fresh frugal install and needed to select and download browsers again. Could not get any of the browsers to download! I used Puppybrowser to verify that I really was connected, but there was no connection to diddywahdiddy.net, and no progress messages. After I clicked 'okay' on the browser selection dialog, I got the 'Please wait...' msg, then nothing until the 'Timeout error - failed to download' message appeared at the top of the screen. The msgs with the orange background never appeared (wget?)

Since I had the .pets for the browsers saved elsewhere on my hard drive, I installed from those.

Hi playdayz

On lupu-111. Pmount Puppy Drive Mounter is broken. When opened, pressing any button closes the program. Therefore, if in the Event Manager: Desktop drive icons, the Tick box for drive icons on desktop is not checked, there is no way to mount/unmount drives.

I haven't checked that on previous lupu versions.

Other than that problem, lupu-111 is working great. I don't know how you've been able to put out so many updates lately.

Kudos,
Jim :D

Jim1911,
I installed lupu-009 and let it check for updates and It works fine.
Pmount also worked.
The updates are supposed to keep your version current. So I guess I have the same as a download of lupu-111.
I could be wrong on that though.
How about it Playdayz.
Will the Update feature keep lupu up to date as to lupu version?
Or would I be better off to download the new lupu-111 version?

When I installed frugal lupu-009, I used my pupsave from lupu-6 and everything went smoothly.
Then I selected the Update feature and lupu downloaded and installed one update.
I tried it once more and it told me my lupu was up to date.
About the only thing I did do manually was a modification to the Update script that was suggested by Mico1.
Before that, the update download would time out. on connection.

Playdayz. About gnome-mplayer. I attached specs about needed libs.

Problem. Finnish keyboard produces problems. There is no section of Xkb in xorg.conf and when I add it I can get my keyboard to work. But If I use new-wizard it cleans my additions.

Ghostscript 8.6.4 didnt help my printing problem. But error message is now foomatic error > "/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip failed"

lupu111 - geode driver

#86 Post by mavrothal »

Lupu111 is build with the older Xserver (2:1.7.6-2ubuntu2) and is using the older 2.11.6 geode driver that has the "missing desktop icons bug".
This was solved in lupu009 and xorg-server 2:1.7.6-2ubuntu5.
Hopefully "first boot to desktop" can work with the latest xorg-server
BTW if was not for the missing icons, worked like a charm :D on the OLPC-XO-1 laptop.

Yesw mavrothal. There was something the latest X-server version that broke xorgwizard, so I went back i the interest of moving forward. I will use the latest version of the geode driver and we will see. Thanks.

Will you please also include /etx/X11/xkb/compat/olpc and /etx/X11/xkb/symbols/olpc in xkeyboard-config.
Being able to fully utilize the OLPC keyboard and gamekeys is very important, specially when the XO-1 is in tablet mode.
Thx

Fresh frugal install for Lupu 112. Browser installation still does not work... am I the only one having this issue?

The Puppy Package Installer functions normally, it's just the browser selection that doesn't seem to connect to the server.

Yes mavrothal, I will do my best. I am not specifically blocking these files. If I may ask a dumb question, where are they exactly? Is that a location in Quirky by any chance? Those might work. Thanks.

Really now, do you think there is some thing wrong with a person who would spend 8 hours trying to solve two little bugs in AbiWord and Gnumeric? At any rate, they seem to be behaving now. Abi 2.8.2 did't work, and Abi 2.8.4 didn't work--in exactly the same way. So what would be the chance that 2.8.3 would work. I ma glad I tried.

Tomorrow I will check my messages for bug fixes and then read the forums as best I can, and then start building 113. The fixes to Abiword and Gnumeric are big to me because they were both crashes in the basic productivity software. QuickPet has a new version as well. Thanks for everything.

Is not in quirky or any puppy ever build as far as I know, and I do not know why.
They are part of freedesktop a couple of years now.
They are both included in xkeyboard-config_1.8-1ubuntu8 sources and Lucid's xkb-data

So somewhere in woof should be an xkb-data config option that specifically defines which of the: compat, geometry, keycodes, keymap, po, rules, semantics, symbols, types and docs options will be included in xkb, overriding the defaults in compat and symbols, Makefile.in files.

I'm assuming that "xkbcomp -m" is where "olpc" should be included at compile time, but I do not really know how X is compiled in Lupu/woof

Network configuration fails

#94 Post by Béèm »

Having been away a while, I jumped from 006 to 112.
I always used the simple network setup which worked ok in 006.
I have a long list with wireless networks in my neighborhood too long for the screen, but with alt-left-click I could position the window to enter the WEP key.
In 112 this doesn't work anymore. The window don't move.

However I can configure with the classic network wizard.

Keyboard configuring

#95 Post by Béèm »

Having been away a while, I jumped from 006 to 112.
I had to do 2 or 3 times the keyboard configuration for my Belgian keyboard before it sticked.
