Some .png files won't open

#1 Post by hexdef101 »

what are the programs responsible for graphics handling? I have a little glitch of not being able to read certain .png files and need to know which files to replace, and where they are located

Really? .pngs are standard in puppy, perhaps they could be corrupt?

thought of that so i copied versions from a known good drive with same results. these .pngs will read in 4.2.1 but not in 4.3.1 (or at least the one modded for broadcom.)

interesting bug these .png's will read if i use firefox to read them. but not other graphics programs. even though they come in tiny.

Maybe a library, or system file, for displaying graphics is corrupt, you can try running the following command.

viewnior example.png

See if that gives you any information, or displays the image.

The you can try this:

1.boot the live CD
2.Open rxvt once booted
3. type the following.

e2fsck -p /dev/(partition puppy 431 is on)

it seems they were always bad .png's. 4.2.1 would still read them is all. unfortunately the only fix is to copy the bad files to an empty folder, load 4.2.1 and fix them using 4.2.1's image viewer. what a pain in the rear.
