@Mysp (p6 ref-link) - "strange/wrong" values are somewhat common (for me anyway) in xorgwizard's initial boot-setup. Blank, generic (or even 'false' reports of values after editing xorg.conf in the mp console editor and retest for a readable test-display page) may happen.

The key is to get a readable test-display page (this ensures you will have a useable display in X). If you have a 'known-good' set of values that works in other pups, it should help and if those known-good values have worked without damage to your hardware or eyesight so far then you should be fine. Yes, ignore 'false' reports if they happen (say you've edited xorg.conf h&v refresh rates and gotten a readable test-display page on retest .. then after you exit that page, xorg gives a 'false report'? go right ahead and finish ). What you've edited and saved in xorg.conf is what is used.

Editing xorg.conf works well for fine-tuning values, but 'Tweak'ing is okay if it gives you a readable test-display page. Yes, xorg is conservative when it says may not be okay for card/display (the okay settings are the basic starting point). By the way, your English is pretty good

The connect icon in the help file doesn't match the one on the desktop, which is about as unhelpful as a help file can be.

Since all versions of Puppy are now using different icon sets my guess is that this file needs to be edited for every new release.

I don't click on the helpfile that often so this may have been the case for some time.

The technique of using a png image of welcome1stboot.htm was introduced in 1.1. Not so good, it would need to be manually recreated for each new release of Quirky.

GNOME MPlayer wouldn't play anything I asked it to in previous Quirkys. I figured it was just me or that the problem would get fixed by now (I'm testing Quirky 1.1,) as usually happens with early versions of new Puppys if I just wait a while. But that hasn't happened. No matter what I try, MPlayer remains stubbornly silent. I've tried a regular audio CD (The Best of ABBA, no less,) a DVD, some AVI video files made with a Canon S3IS digital camera, and a mp3 file. If I drag the mp3 or AVI file from ROX onto the "Play" icon on the desktop, the playlist opens and the file shows up in it, but that's all. Clicking the "Play" arrow does nothing. If I click the mp3 file, MPlayer opens and says "Buffering," then says "Pmusic," but nothing else happens.

All these different file types play in Gxine in this machine, in earlier versions of Puppy.

Do you mean that you get no sound at all, with any application?

Have you experimented with the mixer, see if some other level needs to be brought up?

I don't have the proxy problem though.

q100 and puppeeerc1 and 2 all play it so it was definitely a q110 problem and not proxy related.

It's a PET in Firefox. It looks like your Opera is renaming the file based on its mime type.

That's awful. Harks back to my Windows days when IE used to rename downloaded files.

However, I see only one freememapplet reference in /root/.jwmrc-tray
A bit quirky...

(Solved) I found a freememapplet reference in /root/Startup. Said good-bye to it.

The correct one is in /root/Startup. Any freememapplet anywhere else should be deleted.

In the dock on the left there is "Free space in drives" icon and on the right is the "freememapplet" icon.

Clicking on either does the same thing, opens Partview free space in drive.

Hi Barry,
Another recommendation for quirky1.2,

The xterm script file as used in the puppy4 series is gone from /usr/X11R7/bin/ replaced by a symlink in /usr/bin/ to /usr/bin/urxvt. This means the "xterm -hold -e" function no longer works.

I copied it from puppy431 into /usr/bin/ and my script files work again. Maybe you could put it into quirky1.2?

urxvt home end keys
quirky110 (probably all quirky and puppy)

I use urxvt (aka console or terminal) often.

I have noticed the home and end keys do not function properly in mp, e3 and vi.

For quirky110 they should be:
Rxvt.keysym.Home: \033[1~
Rxvt.keysym.End: \033[4~

For puppy431 they should be:
Rxvt.keysym.0xFF50: \033[1~
Rxvt.keysym.0xFF57: \033[4~

In both comment out or change:
!Rxvt*keysym.0xFF50:\001
!Rxvt*keysym.0xFF57:\005

I ran into an issue with the Puppy Package Manager. Open it and select any package then click on "More Info". Seamonkey will open. If you go back to the PPM you still see the dialog for the package, but the main dialog is already white. Close the package dialog and the main windows stays that way and you can't do anything, but kill it.

I have followed the steps you describe, can't reproduce the problem. With SM showing the help, if I close the install-preview dialog, the main Package Manager window becomes active again. That's as it should be.

i am reporting printing isue, now cups cant share printer. so if i am instaling printer in server, client cant print directly to server. client cannot detected there is any printer instaled on server, but the strange thing is cups pdf on server detected by client. my server using quirky 1.1 and client using 4.3.1. my networking always good when i am 4.3.1 both in client and server.

For correct setup for printing with Samba, the CUPS Printer Wizard has to be run.

I have now fixed Woof so that CUPS is setup correctly for Samba without having to run the CUPS Wizard.

That's too bad. The Epson Avasys website lists your RX600 as compatible with the epkowa driver and it is listed in the file /usr/share/iscan/usb.

The USB report for my NX415 looks just like yours, except for the ProductID.

The only other thing I can suggest is that you boot off the Live CD with "puppy pfix=ram", install the driver and see what happens.

Does the command "sane-find-scanner" detect anything? Have you tried the scanner with other machines?

Hmmm.
I just checked in my 4.1.1 install, and neither ffmpeg (Patriot's 0.5 package) nor Mplayer seems to be linked to liba52... I guess maybe it was compiled statically into one of them? Does anyone know about this?

...most unfortunate that it breaks some audio files. Perhaps someone should go to the ffmpeg forum/mail-list and make a big noise about this. Perhaps they need to bring back the '--enable-liba52' configure option.
