Nvidia Video Driver Pet for Kernel 2.6.33.2

I copied Barry's nvidia-195.36.15-k2.6.33.2-q1.pet directory structure and used files for the latest (for me) nvidia offficial installer (version 195.36.24) package. I found to get the official installer package to compile correctly, one needs at least 512 Megabyte save file with a frugal installation. It was tested on my Acer Aspire Revo system (Nvidia Ion LE chipset). It is a large pet 23 Megabytes and expands to about 71 Meagbytes.

I compiled the driver using the Puppy 5.0 (Lucid) distribution with its devx sfs file and the kernel 2.6.33.2 source package. This driver should work with Quirky 1.1. However, I have found that normal included open source nvidia driver, nv works well on my Quirky installation. So, I have been using that. (26 May, I found this pet does not install correctly for Quirky 1.1. I have to do some more work. The problem may be due to directrory structure differences. Please use the normal nv or nvidia drivers that are part of Quirky. Also CatDude has posted nvidia drivers in this section of forum for Quirky)

If you are going to try this latest nvidia driver on your system, you should first test it using a frugal installtion with 512 Megabyte save file first. This way you can confirm it works correctly on system and its hardware. This is the first time I have done this.

To complete the installation after the pet has installed:
1. Exit to the console prompt using the shutdown menu
2. Run "xorgwizard"
3. Either use the probe button or the chose button
If the chose button is used, then entry nvidia in the selection box
If the probe button, then select the correct resolution
4. Use xorgwizard test x function to ensure that the x server does work properly
5. Press finish to exit
6. Run "xwin" to re-start the xserver using the nvidia driver.

This package over writes the orginial libglx.so in
/usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/modules/extensions. Normally, the glx module is disabled in xorg.conf, so it is not used. If you want to use glx module, one has to edit line 28 in /etc/X11/xorg.conf to "load" GLX. One changes the word "disable" to "load". One needs to "restart the x server" using the shutdown menu. Once the pet is installed, the nvidia libglx file will be used and not the original Puppy version.

I am a little late getting back to you. But I wanted to let you know that I tried your PET on lupu-500 with pfix=ram.
I ran xorgwizard before installing it and then at the desktop, ran "nvidia-xconfig" and restarted X.
When I ran "nvidia-settings" from a terminal, it also worked and afterward, ran "glxgears" copied over from a previous pupsave file.
My screen frames-per-second is 2464.

You could upgrade the PET to include a menu entry for "nvidia-settings" and also include "/usr/bin/glxgears" if you wanted.
That would make it complete.
But the important thing is it worked.

Maybe we can get the user who posted the message of his Nvidia AGP card not working to try it. That would be a real test.
My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE.

Using a Gforce fx5200 nvidia card in a dell optilex gx270 in a AGP slot card.The driver did not work.I had tried two other pets for this kernel with the same negative result.I think is back to 4.3.1 kernell 2.6.30.5.

What version of Puppy are you using?
Did you have the factory driver working in Puppy 4.3.1?
Also, does the Nvidia web site show your nvidia card as being supported?

I am using Lucid Puppy 5.0 in this Dell Optiplex gx270 with a Fx5200 Nvidia card and yes it works in puppy 4.3.1...But wait... you were right My card is supported by the 173.xxx driver not the 195.xxx driver.
In my other machine I have an FX6200 in the AGP slot and it is working really good with Lucid Puppy and the 195.xxx driver.Well now I can only wait for a pet of a 173. driver to be available.

Yes, 8-bit, I do have glxgears. I will add it to the package and update. There should be a entry for nvidia-settings in the menu. It should be under setup. I used Barry's desktop file, so it should be there. The desktop file is located in /usr/share/applications and is called nvidia-settings.desktop If you open it with a text editor (Gearny) then you can change the menu setting, the Categories= entry. Try System. It should work. In a console window, type fixmenus. This generates the new menus. Then use Restart X server under the shutdown menu to use the new menu. The nvidia-settings will be under System Settings.

It will take a couple of days for me to update the package. I will post when I get it done.

elcurita, CatDude has done a pet package of nvidia 173 driver for the kernel 2.6.33.2. His package may work for you. Here is the location of his drivers:

This works very nicely on my new setup - an Acer 20" widescreen display, 1600x900 native resolution. The CPU has a 7100 integrated graphics chip. Using Puppy 5.01 for the first time. This post gave me an excuse to upgrade from Puppy 4.31. Nice, crisp look.

173.14.25 version is just what I needed for Quirky.
Now my video card is working at full capability.
