CP1250 does not work in Puppy 5.0 - works in Quirky 1.1

#1 Post by livinginfastlane »

:(
I've solved it by copy CP1250.so from Ubuntu to /usr/lib/gconv.

If Puppy is truly international should not it have full sets of page code library?

Can you give us some sort of hint as to what a cp1250 is?

Probably should have posted in the 5.0 bug reports.

Inspiron 700m, Pent.M 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram.
Msi Wind U100, N270 1.6>2.0Ghz, 1.5Gb ram.
Eeepc 8g 701, 900Mhz, 1Gb ram.
Full installs

I second that this issue is better addressed in the lucid 5 bugs thread in this bugs forum.

@rjbrewer, the OP explained in his sub-tittle.
It is a code page for character encoding, like there is the iso-8859-1, UTF-8 and the like. Mostly used in Windows.
Time savers:
Find packages in a snap and install using Puppy Package Manager (Menu).

For correct working with particular codepage You must install:
1) Kernel module /lib/modules/$kernelversion/kernel/fs/nls_*
2) Glib's locale files /usr/lib/locale/* (Or generate them with localedef)
3) Glib's gconv library /usr/lib/gconv/*.so
4) X's locale files /usr/X11/lib/X11/locale/*
(Where "*" is your codepage)
Also You must install bitmap fonts for old X's applications and Xconsole.
A Real console needs it's own font (and possibly a translation table) which can be found in "kbd" package.
SUUM CUIQUE.
