how to customize puppy with no e-net, no i-net

#1 Post by pooklaroux »

The desktop system I was able to install today doesn't have a modem or a network card. The system I plan to install on has a pcmcia slot, but no built in e-net (I gather the built in modem is not working)

So here's my questions:

1) how can I customize puppy on these non-inet connected systems? I can dl and burn to disk anything I need on the iMac. Dl'ing is not the problem.

2) I have a pcmcia usb 2.0, firewire card, any chance of that working under puppy?

3) if I'm going to buy an ethernet 10/100 pcmcia or a wireless pcmcia, which ones are more likely to work with puppy?

4) am I going to need to do something special to get the pcmcia slot ot work in puppy?

Thanks -- already this forum and community have been super helpful!

You can install Dotpups with clicking on them in ROX.
You can install unleashed packages with Pupget (Alien Package).
Download unleashed here: http://ftp.nluug.nl/ftp/pub/os/Linux/di ... ackages-1/

Burn to CD, install with Pupget.

My Sitegear USB 2.0 PC Card (Pcmcia to USB2-Adaptor) works fine in Puppy.
Sometimes I must type "modprobe usb-storage" manually, if I attach a harddisk later.

I'm confused about how to install Unleashed -- I have to make a swap partition? The test pc has win98 loaded, I've never partitioned a drive that already had an operating system on it.
