scanner buttons are not recognized

I cannot figure out what I do wrong. The scanner's buttons do not have any function in Puppy.

I use a Mustek BearPaw 2400CU Plus scanner.
Xsane finds it. I can scan from the keyboard, but not with the scanner buttons.

I have copied the *.usb files (firmware) as described

# ls -l /usr/share/sane/gt68xx/
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7477 Mar 7 08:28 PS2Dfw2.usb
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7410 Mar 7 07:53 PS2Dfw.usb

used each of them, without any success.

Any ideas?
