Printer Problem - G55 and Lucid Puppy

#1 Post by 2srp529 »

I can't get Lucid Puppy to print to my HP G55 printer. I installed Lucid Puppy just recently, and have not had experience running any earlier versions.

Go here and install the hpijs-3.10.2-dynppd.pet. It has a driver for your HP Officejet g55 that should work in Lupu.

G55 printer problem continued...

#3 Post by 2srp529 »

I've now installed hpijs-3.10.2-dynppd.pet and selected the 3.10.2 driver for the G55 and tried printing a test page. The job has hung in a state of "processing" when looked at in CUPS. When I click on the printer name I get this message that might be relevant:

The connection was refused when attempting to contact puppypc:0.

How did you install the printer? The usual way is to click the Administration tab and select Find New Printers. I did test installs of two HP printers in Lupu 500 with the HPIJS driver and they worked fine.

By clicking on various things, I could occasionally get the "Connection refused" message, but the printer was working.

HP G55 printer deleted and reinstalled

#5 Post by 2srp529 »

Under the Admin tab I just deleted the printer to be sure there were no legacy issues, and then reinstalled it. It identifies the printer during setup, but won't print.

That's too bad. How are you connected - directly via USB? Does this unit use something special to set it online?

I notice that there is also a Gutenprint driver for the G55. Did you already try it?

USB connected, tried Gutenprint driver without success

The HP Office G55 printer is connected by USB. I tried the Gutenprint driver first, before trying the driver you suggested.

Can't print

#8 Post by 2srp529 »

I have now tried plugging in a Lexmark printer with a USB cable. CUPS promptly noted it was there when I went to install it within the Admin tab. I tried to print. It thinks it printed, but it doesn't print. I don't think it is creating a PDF either. So it seems like the same or similar problem as with my HP G55 printer. Is there some sort of permission issue?

No. This should be straight-forward. There could be a hardware problem with your USB port or cable, or your Lucid install is somehow corrupted.

Do you have another machine you could try this on? Or maybe try a different Puppy, like Quirky 1.2.

Printing problem

#10 Post by 2srp529 »

OK. I've tried it now with Quirky. Same result. Neither printer works, using different cables. I just tried get my laptop to boot up with Puppy so I could try this on a different system. No go. I keep specifying in the BIOS setup screen to boot from CD but Windows keeps grabbing control every time -- I can't figure out how to get it to stop. This whole exercise started because my Vista OS got corrupted on my desktop PC. Thanks for your help, but at this point I figure I may just have to go and buy Windows 7 and do a new install.
