Picasa 3.0 beta for tpup and a pet

#1 Post by GrumpyWolfe »

Hi All

Well I did not see that aragon had posted a sfs at the addy http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=35035 but he does worn you not to use with 4.2 or newer, well I will tell you I got this working on a tpup build so it should be ok for newer puppy builds.

Get the sfs here:
http://mywolfe.googlecode.com/files/Pic ... ta_009.sfs

And a pet for those who prefer pets.
http://mywolfe.googlecode.com/files/Picasa-3.0beta.pet

Hope someone finds enjoyment in those.

Thanks Grumpywolfe,
I had tried a couple of times to get Picasa Ver 3 to work unsuccessfully.
Used your .pet in Lighthouse pup 4.43f (based on the latest version of puppy) and it worked just fine.
Although Picasa uses quite a lot of the save file space I just increase it so that operations are not compromised. Amarok also uses lots of space. Other than that I store most of my data outside the /root level to keep things running smoothly.

Had to rename Picasa-3.0beta_009.sfs to Picasa-3.0beta_009432.sfs to get the
Menu / System / Bootmanager to recognise
(then of course reboot to load sfs)

Picassa is not for me (find it completely counter intuitive)
but I was interested in trying the beta

Many thanks :)

I am taking a guess here but the problem may be that it is based on Puppylinux 4.3. That said the creater of Cielo may have change some of the libs and that is cousing the failer. See if he or she will adapt it to work. I right now have a lot going working on MyWolfe-018 and keeping Google-chrome updates coming as the are made available.

Thanks GrumpWolfe, this is the first time I've got Picasa to work with Puppy. (I'm using your Chrome 7.0.517.41.stable too and love it). I'm using it on Puppy 4.3.1, it complains that I have less than the recommended free disk space, but it does work. I increased my personal storage space to 2048Mb and have 1177Mb left, so I don't know how much it wants to see.

BTW, is there a version of Puppy you would recommend for people like me who like Google's offerings. (Still praying for a Linux Sketchup).

Hi abedarts

Glad that Picasa is working for you just remember to store your pictures in a dir on the main drive outside your save file and Picasa will still use up alot of your save file space it is a mem hog. As for a puplet with google-chrome the default and here I do not want to just tute my own horn but you could try my puplet MyWolfe at my google code site here is a link to the MyWolfe-020 MyWolfe-020.iso

picasa2 2.7.3

#12 Post by Karl Godt »

Just installed picasa v2 from your code.google page on Macpup F3 Full installation, whose partition been upgraded from 20GB to 30GB (Puppy 4.3.x) : Working great -- even with 3.9.9-iCore2 kernel .

Had deleted much in /opt to save space -- now am resurrecting things again . Also Chrome browser 5-10 seems to work nicely -- while FF-3.5 stopped working on such ARCH kernels .

My old google-earth seems to hang though ..

Cheers !
