vlc pvr bitrate
Hi,
When using vlc to record from a pvr adjusting the bitrate has no effect.
For example the default bitrate (-1) would record an hours worth of video into a 2.7GB file.
Adjusting the bitrate to e.g. 3000000 should record an hours worth of video to a 1.4GB file with no deterioration in quality.
Is there any way this can be fixed?
Thanks fro your help,
Kino

yes it should work on 4.3++, Sometimes Barry used a different ffmpeg, and all you need to do is make system links ., you'll know when it checks for dependencies and gives you a list of whats missing, just make system to links to the current files.
example libavformat.so.52 should have a systemlink libavformat.so.51
libcdio.so.12 should have a systemlink libcdio.so.7

Wow! I am using a 450mhz Toshiba Tecra 8000 with 128mb ram with puppy linux 4.0, and this is working perfectly! I can't believe I can play a 284 mb mp4 video on this computer.
For a while I was using gxine, which just barely worked but sometimes had audio/video syncing issues and couldn't work with large videos. Then, presumably because of a lack of resources, it stopped syncing audio and video on large files and videos became unwatchable. I tried re-formatting, installing different versions of gxine, installing different codecs, switching to different media players, etc. etc. but I couldn't even get back to borderline functionality.
But I installed your package and everything works brilliantly. No missing libraries, no vertical lines, no choppiness, nothing but pure functionality. Thanks ttuuxx.

some people have had more success with this than I have.
I'm using 4.2.1, and enjoying it, but tried the d/l from the first post in the hope of playing some youtube flv files. Unfortunately, they won't run in VLC, gxine or xine.
Does this mean there is a missing codec? (is that the right term?)
I am using xvesa, and I gather that can make a difference in some situations. Is this one of those?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Bones
PS: Youtube does work on seamonkey.

That link is in French - I daresay only a tiny percentage of Forum members can read French.
Perhaps the Puppy Forum managers could add this international languange translation widgit?
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/ultimat ... with-flags
I have used it here and it works well:
http://kd4e.com/wp.html
And if you click on the first link "Spanish Language Weather Resources" you can look at the Source and see how a single language-to-language (in this case English-to-Spanish) translation may be automated for a Web page:
http://kd4e.com/espanol-weather.html
Or here to see how one embeds the translation in the link to an external
Web site:

Puppy 5.0 - VLC problems
Hi,
Just installed Puppy 5 [frugal installation]. In addition I installed VLC media player, I used the link provided on the first page to download the latest version of the VLC media player.
However, when I tried to start it, it does not run. The messages I am getting are about some skins2 problem (see attached screen shot). Earlier in this thread I seem to remember to have read that VLC is not using anymore skins. What is the problem?

Use vlc 1.0.6 lucid pet. From the puppy lucid repo in the PPM or from quickpet installer, might need updated version. There is also straight link:
http://www.smokey01.com/01micko/lucid/V ... -Lucid.pet
U/P > puppy : linux
Vlc 1.0.6 made from the ubuntu binaries works fine in Lucid Puppy.
