Actually not. Exact the opposite, it was a pleasant surprise that version 1.92 is smaller than the previous. Only the locales grow up by few kb:

extracted sizes of full package
1.83: 3292kb
1.91: 3336kb
1.92: 3256kb

extracted size of small packages
1.83: 804kb
1.91: 816kb
1.92: 796kb

pet size of small packages:
175: 297kb
1.76: 298kb
1.82: 329kb
1.83: 330kb
1.91: 333kb
1.92: 323kb

Hi Michalis
maybe on the first page you might want to tell users if they add this line
application/x-bittorrent; /usr/bin/transmission "%s" to /etc/mailcap then when you click on a torrent Firefox and I think Seamonkey will give you the options to open the torrent in Transmission. :)

Transmission 1.93 and 2.00 beta2 are out.

Now where are the .PET packages?

There are some critical fixes for Puppy users in 1.93:

* Fix slow file preallocation on Unix systems not using ext3/ext4 (NOTE: Puppy uses ext2 by default)
* Fix crash when updating the blocklist when the disk is full

Good point, I'll add it.

Hadn't noticed them. I'll compile version 2 which is stable now later tonight when I'll return from work.

Which of the current versions of Puppy is this compatible with, please?

Puppy 4.31

Lucid 5.01

Wary 030

Quirky 1.2

Are any security vulnerabilities added with Transmission?

(Peer-to-peer clients have been infamous due to the nature of passing large
and often complex (video, audio, etc) files among "strangers".

Are there any known conflicts with common Web filters on routers and locally?

Barry has a Firewall for Wary 030. Concerns?

I am looking at the installation of OpenDNS on our router. Concerns?

I've compiled it in quirky and tested also in 4.31 but it should work with every puppy version as long as you have installed libevent. For the locales in most cases you also need intltool, but you could first check whether you need it.

No vulnerabilities in the program according to what I know and moreover it's code is open, so anyone can check it. Of course the files that you are sharing you choose them and transmission can't tell you whether there is any virus, trojan or other malware (for windows) into them. But even if you download one it won't hurt you up till the time you will try to use it in windows, and even then if your antivirus program works well (updated) it will block it.

Nope as long as you have the port that is using (static or upnp) opened.

There is no problem with OpenDNS, not even with DynDns if you want to use your pc as small server or for remote control.

Transmission wont run

#72 Post by aciddiver »

I'm using Bruno Pup 4.3.1 and have been using Transmission for a couple of months. For one reason or another I deleted my pup-save file and started over. However this time when I installed Transmission, it wouldn't run. I clicked on the menu option and nothing happens. Tried it in console and it says that I'm missing libraries so I installed all the libraries and now I get this:

process 27554: D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine uuid: Failed to open "/var/lib/dbus/machine-id": No such file or directory
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue.
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
Aborted

I really like using Transmission and want to continue.
Help!

Hi, I installed transmission-2.01-i486-small.pet on quirky 1.2 but can't control it via webadmin on another machine. There's error saying "Couldn't find Transmission's web interface files!". Please help.

You need the full package. The small package doesn't contain those files in order to be small

The files I build are guaranteed to work only for the officials pup and all the derivatives that come from them. Thous I guarantee that works in 4.31 and quirky, and I haven't tested it but I know that works in spup also. I can't (I don't have so much time to spare) test it against any puplet, wooflet.
Anyway I'm downloading Bruno now and I'll give it a spin, but if the problem is really the dbus libraries used in it I won't get into the trouble to compile dbus. In that case it would be better to contact the guy that is building it.

Full package could be good for my puppy lupu 501 (on desktop 2xHD) ..... if installable at once, no compiling/configuring and the like .... all dependencies included .... but where to download?

This
http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php
"download" link only leads me to this here thread...

I have updated the pets and tested them in Bruno and now they work. Last time I had compiled transmission in quirky and there were libraries mismatch with all puppies based on 431. Anyway under clean install I compiled it again and in 431 this time and now works tested on 431, quirky and Bruno.

@willem1940NLD
I don't understand what you mean, can't you see the pets in the first post?

O.k, thanks; I only observed the link-like coloured names, not the separate download fields lower in the message .... downloaded full and will try out.

201 I could not get to work in lupu 501, but 191 given to me on chat by user Upera about 3 hours ago, does fine.

Of course I uninstalled versions between tests.

Much better/easier than pctorrent, at any rate.

As I've written:
"under clean install I compiled it again and in 431 this time and now works tested on 431, quirky and Bruno."

So it works definitely under 431 because I've compiled it in 431. :?
Are you sure you haven't changed something in your puppy?
