Changing puppy's X Window manager to......PAWM, OLVWM, etc.?

#1 Post by ljones »

...To PAWM :) !

I was wondering (actually from a little while back) if it was possible to replace puppy's FVWM95 with another window manager? I Quite like PAWM and it can be made quite small (under mandrake 10, and after stripping and UPXing (reminds me of the old amiga program 'powerpacker'!) it came out to about 30K in total. I'm guessing PAWM's windowlist (which appears at the bottom of the screen) can be turned off somehow (and its background/icons); PAWM dosen't have a start button but rox's bar at the bottom of the screen (turned off in puppy) could be pressed into action :) .

Does anyone know how I could do all this? :)

it's more than likely possible, why don't you give it a try?

see: http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.p ... &start=118

rox-filer can make bars, but they are basically places to put icons, like the desktop

i think the bar in that picture belongs to the rox window manager, not rox-filer

pawm - cannot launch applications

#4 Post by rarsa »

Hi,

I've installed pawm and created some icons but it does not matter what I do, I cannot launch any application

Here are the steps I folloed:

Downloaded and installed the DotPup
I created the ~/.pawm directory
I created an app-rxvt file with the following content
rxvt.xpm
130 40
rxvt
/usr/local/bin/rxvt

I exit the X environment (ctrl-alt-bk space)

I re-start it using pawm (startx pawm)

It starts OK:
I can see the bottom bar, it hides and shows.
It has the off button
I can see my icon (the default penguin)
I can move my icon

but when I double click the icon, nothing happens.
I've tried presing enter, tab, right double click, and nothing happens

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you in advance

I just thought -- if I can't use PAWM, maybe I should try OLWM? :D

Duh :) Of course I meant OLVWM; I've attached a pre-compiled version I found online some time back, btw. I don't know if it will work with puppy or not(!).

The more WMs we add the more it will be difficult to maintain menus & al
On the other hand I'm all for choices.

I've tried PWM, Fluxbox and IceWM.

You can find Icewm and Fluxbox in the wiki page.
