Savage
a "Real Time Strategy Shooter"

Image

Download here : http://ppm.scottjarvis.com/games/sfs/savage_420.sfs
(md5: c88e6f6daa580f5cd122f6726418a9c9, 148mb)

Don't forget to rename the sfs file to match your Puppy version, and
convert the sfs file, if using Puppy 4.3 or later!

Homepage: http://www.s2games.com/savage/
User manual (pdf) is here

This is a great game, combining real time strategy (RTS) and first/third person shooter.
Online play is still quite active, and very good fun.
This one runs nice and quick, even with high detail graphics enabled. :D
Unlike some others, this version can be modded via the downloads, found on the homepage :)

Choose to be a commander and you will play an in-depth RTS managing the stronghold .... choose to be a warrior and you will play an intense game of first person combat.

With the creation of a new game play genre, RTSS (Real Time Strategy Shooter), Savage expertly redefines the first-person shooter and real-time strategy genres by combining elements of both into one cohesive experience.
Requires OpenGL
Tested and working perfect on Puppy 4.2

To play: type 'savage' in the terminal or go to 'Menu->Fun'

Yes this is Savage 1.. Thanks for your links...

Savage 2 looks good, though..

Maybe you should post a few links in some new threads to some of the better games, that aren't on here already..

Correct.. That is usually enough..
Copy the sfs file to "/mnt/home" and make sure the sfs is renamed correctly..

So if you're running 4.3.1, you should rename the "file_420.sfs" to "file_431.sfs"... Then reboot..

That should be enough.. But if not..

After copying to /mnt/home, or after rebooting:

Check "Menu->System->BootManager" to make sure that the SFS file you choose will be (or has been) loaded..
(By default Puppy will load all sfs files which finish with the correct Puppy version..)

OR

You could download the SFS, double click on it, to mount it,
then drag and drop the contents to a folder on a mounted partition..
Then browse to the bin file and double click to it run it..

This is a simple way of playing large games from your hard drives or USB drives,
without adding them to your save file (which, often, all loads into your RAM!!)

well im on a full install of pupeee ...uh idk wut version..i got it on here a few days ago...cuz it has 3d support for my shitty vid card so idk wut version i would need to set it to or how to find that out...i guess i could prolly look...but the last way sounds a lot easier lol im a try that.

thx for another game mang.
(btw...check request...true combat elite)

edit:

i got it..i had to convert the sfs...then extract the files to the needed directories.. then...type savage in rxvt and..it opened no problem(no errors at all)...said game intializen...then...whut i assume it went to load the menu...and i just get a white screen...but..my vid card blows more cock then a 2 dollar whore ...doesnt have vertex shading..pixel shading..or hardware tnl... i spose maybe..i could try 3d analyze with WINE and try to launch it then but lol..that would just be a pain n the ass. But ye..it would be fun to play if my vid card didnt fail... But this is just a mini laptop...i just want a couple games on here and ventrillo and irc...which i got so.....i gettin greedy tryna get another game or 2 lol. but thx anyway mang.

How did you convert the .sfs? How do you see the files inside of it? I'm also running a full install, but of 4.2.1, and would love to try this.

1.Open up rxvt then type sfs2tgz "location of sfs file" then hit enter
2.next extract the archive
3. can copy files to required locations or can dir2pet the directory and install.

Thanks for the help, but when I try typing sfs2tgz "/root/my-documents/savage_420.sfs"

It either says command not found or nothing happens.

Edit: I accidently clicked it and mounted it though, this shouldn't harm my full install at all right? When I mounted it I was able see inside and copy the files out.

Yeah, I installed it and got it working already, I played it for a few hours but I decided I didn't like it and am uninstalling it, it takes way to long to kill any one thing. I'll just keep playing tremulous and assaultcube. Thanks for your help. It sure does have pretty graphics though and it ran flawlessly on my machine.

you are missing some libs and savage does not ever tell you what libs.
this is a old version anyway you should go to the site and install the proper way. just dont install in your save file, install it somewhere in your hard drive.
it will not run after install you will need to do some other stuff, i can help you after you have it installed.
i do not have a place where i can upload larger then 300MB so can not give you a working sfs but after you have the current version installed i can help.

after installed you can move the installed savage dir anywhere you want outside your savefile

then create a script in /root/my-applications/bin
name it savage

Code: Select all

cd /location/of/savage/dir/
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=libs:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ./silverback.bin
exit 0
then create a folder in your savage dir called libs, the script above will use that lib dir to run the game. the reason i do this is cuzz you can place libs in that dir without messing with puppy libs, then i will give you the libs i use they work on all puppies i tried.

Thanks, scabz.

But the links from the site, turn up 404.
So I tried to install Savage "SFE" from newerth.com.

But the savage.sh script (edited with path to game files) and silverback.bin does nothing.

Scabz, do you think maybe you could give the list of libs you use for it, so that I can check to see if I have them, and just use them with your sfs?

Darkcity-
I'm on a frugal install, and I never had any trouble loading scabz's sfs. I'm having trouble running the game.

ya know i really dont know what libs are needed cuzz i use the game saved in a hard drive with many different puppies so all the libs are needed for the change of puppies some are probably not needed. there is alot in the lib dir i made.

Image

now these libs dont put them in you puppy lib dir like /usr/lib they can break thing in your puppy place in savage-xr/lib or for savage-sfe/lib like in my screenshot.
