Hi dejan555,

Line 108 of /usr/share/applications/kde/amarok.desktop needs to be changed to Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/amarok.png in order for the icon to show up properly in the menu.

Thank you again for this sfs, it's a fine addition to dpup's available applications.

Yeah, saw that, if I make more changes worth repackaging I will fix it, for now I can make pet with new desktop file or just copy/paste this command in terminal who wants to fix :)

Code: Select all

sed -i 's%Icon=amarok%Icon=/usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/amarok.png%' /usr/share/applications/kde/amarok.desktop

Hi there, I compiled VLC 1.0.5 for dpup (light package, without interfaces) and tested on clean dpup 484 beta 4 boot.
I made a simple gtk frontend (VERY BASIC!) so you know you can have much more options in command line! (Maybe some of our bash/GTK developers might make some decent frontend eh? Now there's challenge for them  )
I also added ROX right clicks on video files to play with VLC

Tested for sure to play these formats:
DVD/ Audio CD/ MPG/ MP4/ MP3/ OGG/ FLAC/ AVI/ FLV/ ISOS/ WMV/ WAV/ AU/ RM

Here you go: vlc-1.0.5-lite-i486-dpup.pet 2.8 MB

OH, right, if you use vlc thru frontend from menu for audio files be sure to click the "Stop" button to be sure that vlc process doesn't hang even if song is finished!

Enjoy! 8)

**EDIT** Reuploaded package with subtitle font fix and sc0ttman's gtk frontend 1.1
Here's the VLC GTK thread:

Anyone watching this thread anymore?
Anyway I compiled icewm 1.3.6 on dpup, seems good so far and renders almost all themes perfectly, I've tested quite number of them, the only problems were 18k-metal and 4dwm from icepak.pet (don't use, will crash X!).
ttuuxxx's themes display nice and also tested some new windowish themes from box-look.

Install pet then exit X, type xwin icewm-session to run it.
Here's the pet: icewm-1.3.6-i486-dpup.pet 618 KB

Does it work with the (p)kde(2) themes from icepak.pet?
kde, kde2, pkde, pkde2 all crash IceWM for me.

Of course.
Dpup showed a great deal of promise
and is still there as a base for further development using Woof
for the Debian enthusiast.
I found it reliable with many innovations, even at the beta stage.

Concurr, it's still a jewel that remains on my computer, although it would be great to have gposil back. dejan555, thank you for the additional gems that work with it.

I'm still watching the thread as well - whenever I receive the forum updates that is. ;) However, I'm no longer running Dpup but Dejan's KDpup, which is a puplet based upon the last-issued Dpup with a beautifully-working KDE-3.5.10 desktop added. ( For further info see Dejan's signature link above. )

As to software for Dpup though? Before I'd removed Dpup and now that I have KDpup, I've since installed so much software straight from Lenny via Synaptic into the hard drive install - and it all has worked flawlessly at that - I couldn't even begin to make a list of everything which has worked for this thread! :( I really should have kept notes like other projects I've worked upon... With Puppy I'm playing around, enjoying my life, and computer! ;)

About all I can say is, if you've got Dpup/KDpup, find software you want ( either through PPM or install gposil's Synaptic if you have the space for it ) and go for the gusto! LOL!

Amicalement!/Cheers!

Totally AWESOME Dejan! WOW!!

#59 Post by Eyes-Only »

Hi Dejan!! 8)

Just wanted to give you a 'heads up' on the XFCE-4.6.2 that you've made for the Dpup puplet.

Two words easily sums it up:

Totally AWESOME!! 8)

I've installed it into your 1st version release of KDpup and have been playing around with it for approximately an hour now - really having a BLAST here my friend! Oh, and the "icon problem" you've mentioned? Not a problem at all IF you happen to have a fully-complete and functional gtk icon theme ( as in "an icon theme which will work for gnome/LXDE or other gtk-compliant desktop ), of which I happen to have many by the way.

Myself, at the moment I prefer the "Oxygen for Gnome". When used in conjunction with "Oxygen for KDE3" in KDpup you easily cover nearly every aspect of Puppy in this manner by about 99.5% ( if I'd get off being lazy and make a theme for XFE I'd likely cover that .5% ;) ).

At any rate Dejan, please keep up the fabulous job that you're doing, okie? Having all these desktops and window managers at my fingertips in KDpup ( 7 or 8 now I think? ) there's never a dull moment - that's for sure!

Cheers!/Amicalement!

Howdy Once Again Dejan! :)

For a further "FYI" here I thought that I'd let you know that - except for the dependencies of libXRes.so/libXRes.so.1.0.0 needed by xfdesktop - you're Xfce4 Desktop .pet above works magnificently in the newly-released LucidPup-5.1 as well. 8)

I thought that you might want to know this Dejan, as not all that long ago I'd attempted such an install of Xfce via the PPM in LucidPup - which went surprisingly well at that - but the lack of LibXKB-xfce I believe it was ( PPM was unable to track it down, nor was I able to find it via Synaptic ) killed all use of my keyboard at the time. So I thought it'd be nice to let others know, including you, that your .pet works in LucidPup as well!

Once again my Puppian Friend: I really do appreciate your hard work to give us the VERY BEST operating system AND PUPLET ( okie! IMHO anyway! lol ) available today! Please keep up the great work Dejan - you've got one very impressed fan here! ;)

Cheers!/Amicalement!
