23 July 2010-- Siemens AG said hackers have attacked software used to control water-processing plants, power grids and factories globally, according to an article on Bloomberg.com.
Siemens said it was notified July 14 that a program called Stuxnet is targeting Siemens’ Simatic WinCC, a control program that agencies and manufacturers use to acquire and analyze data. Customers were notified of the breach two days later. The company is not sure if the malware was trying to take control of the application or steal information.
Microsoft, which is working to fix the breach, has a patch available for customers to download and remove the malware.
