internet is slow & dvds play slowly in Puppy 4.31 Subject description: 300MHz CPU |
|
Puppy_browser, Mozilla and Seamonkey load pages really slow and jerky. I connect wirelessly, with 2mbps. Streaming videos play like 2 frames per second. Really jerky. Dvd's play frame by frame too. I suppose it is due to old hardware right? (geforce440mx, 300Mhz pentium "costarica") Can I make adjustments to improve the situation? I have puppy 431 and Xorg.

1)Maybe this and this will help you...
To make -=Fluxbuntu CD=- bootable i have applied the -=ISO_edited-Fluxbuntu.sh=- script to the original -=iso=- file.
After that i wrote the ISO file(which was created by script) on the CD.
| Quote: |
ISO_edited-Fluxbuntu.sh
| Code: |
#!/bin/bash
#Command -=cd /place_where_ISO_edited-Fluxbuntu.sh_located ; chmod u+x ISO_edited-Fluxbuntu.sh=-
#has been applied to this script before use.
#>>>Script has been used in Linux Puppy-4.30<<<
#File -=fluxbuntu-7.10-installer-i386.iso=-
#is located in -=tmp=- folder.
cd /tmp ;
mkdir fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
mount -t iso9660 -o loop fluxbuntu-7.10-installer-i386.iso fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
tar -cvf fluxbuntu-7.10RC.tar fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
umount fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
rm /tmp/fluxbuntu-7.10-installer-i386.iso ;
rm -r /tmp/fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
cd / ;
tar -xvf /tmp/fluxbuntu-7.10RC.tar ;
echo "ok" ;
#chmod +w /fluxbuntu-7.10RC/isolinux/isolinux.bin ;
rm /fluxbuntu-7.10RC/isolinux/boot.cat ;
rm /tmp/fluxbuntu-7.10RC.tar ;
#someone's variant ---->>>
#chmod -R +w fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;
#mkisofs -J -r -o fluxbuntu-7.10RC-edited.iso -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table fluxbuntu-7.10RC ;

Flashplayer-10 works in Firefox-3.0(GranParadiso-3.0a8) and in Kazehakaze-0.4.3. On -=youtube.com=- it works well, on -=southparkstudios.com=- it doesn't work.
Flashplayer works in Firefox-3.0(GranParadiso-3.0a8) after these steps:
1)Remove -=flashplugin-nonfree=- if this program is installed ;
2)Download install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz ;
3)Create -=plugins=- folder in /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/ if it doesn't exist ;
4)Move -=install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz=- to /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/plugins ;
5)Launch the command -=tar zxvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz=- over there ;
6)Launch the -=Firefox=- and go to the Tools--->Add-ons--->Plugins. -=Shockwave Flash=- must be over there.
Flashplayer works in Kazehakaze-0.4.3 after these steps:
1)Remove -=flashplugin-nonfree=- if this program is installed ;
2)Download install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz ;
3)Move -=install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz=- to /home/simplyuser/.mozilla/plugins/ ;
4)Launch the command -=tar zxvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz=- over there ;
5)Download firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 ;
6)Launch the command -=tar jxvf firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2=-, or the files can be extracted like in this example -=tar jxvf firefox-3.6.3.tar.bz2 firefox/libssl3.so=-
7)Move 1)libnss3.so 2)libsmime3.so 3)libssl3.so 4)libnssutil3.so from -=firefox-3.6.3=- folder to /usr/lib.
2)I would try -=cloudyskieslive-1.01-pupp1.iso=-. This version of -=Linux Puppy=- is with -=kernel-2.6.21.7=- and with -=NVidia=- drivers. As this OS is with lots of nonusual programs, so i would remove them somehow.

same issues (and worse) with Mint felicia fluxbox. It is a matter of hardware. Can't ask for quality video streaming with 300Mhz and geforce 440mx !
