Hi shinobar,
«arigatai!» for this multilanguage puppy
On lucid Puppy Quickset-003 frugall install + multilingual.sfs : It works nice with fr_BE-français locale + be-latin1 keyboard.
Just 3 questions at this time:
1. there is a lupq-003.iso downloadable from /puppy/pup4/QuickSet as also from /puppylinux/download/quickset_puppy; both size 114MB ;.... in what do they differ ?
2. If loading a browser (for instance browser=Firefox, or browser=Seamonkey), I'll get the english version. Do you think I may just untar the browser.tar.gz or the brower.tar.bz2 without adding some extra dependencies?
3. jwm menu entries appear transalted. I got a try on icewm, and there the menu entries keep to be in english.
Should one have switched to icewm before applying the multinlingual.sfs afterwards to get the icewm menu translated?

Many thanks for any answer

Cheers from Belgium, Charlie

Hi again shinobar!
in addition to previous post, I got a try on
- puppy quickset-003 on a live-cd session with locale unmodified (i.e. us locale and keyboard) at first;
- afterwards installed lang_pack_fr-lupq-0.1.pet (15-Aug-2010)2.2M from /puppy/pup4/QuickSet/opt ; it is smaller than the multilanguage.sfs and do not require a frugall instal !
- afterwards setup the system to fr_français-belgium + fr_BE-latin1 keyboard, restarted X and there it is: a lucid puppy with french menus [in mtpaint it is noticeable that the popup menus are all well french translated, whereas it is not in the frugall install + multilanguage.sfs (here only the menu headers like Fichier Édition Affichage...are translated) - outside any error from me].
- installed the wine pet (1.1.43 !) using quickpet + a few favourite windows applications +additionnal .dll's and registered them = run nicely ! =-).

ps:
- did not tried if icewm was translated - see that later.

I appreciate very much to get the last version of abiword running with french translated menus (it is much comfortable for intensive use even if one can manage with english) as abiword remains a tinny wordprocessor.
Would now search for abi-2.8.6-plugins (for docx reading).
Hope other non-english speaking/reading people may enjoy your multilingual-Puppy!

Many thanks again and success for that nice work!
Cheers, Charlie

icewm

merci charlle6,
http://openlab.jp/puppylinux/download/quickset_puppy/ is a mirror.
As for the translations on icewm, je ne sais pas. I have never tried it yet and i have no plan to support icewm.
icewm can be removed in some future lupq. Qu'est ce que vous pansez?
How do you think?

Bonjour à tous,
Be patient, I prepare a supplement to the French language package, including translation of Icewm and spell checking for Abiword.
Soon,
Cordialement ;)

Test lupqa004

#25 Post by Tasgarth »

Hi shinobar,
TEST lupq004:
Cd-Live ( in RAM).. >:
X failed to start > xorgwizard ... > probe >1600x1200x24 > xwin
.... > OK
Country Settings :
fr_français > Europe_Paris > UTC > fr (France) > X server ...> OK
--- Menu is in French
--- Icons : us.
==> Install 'lang_pack_fr >.....
Icons : OK (fr)
-----------------
2) Save (pupsave)... rebooted.
Problem :
Only the prompt with its black screen >>
I must do "xwin" (fr keyboard) and after that it's good.

Thanks

Arabic and Hebrew support on lupq-004

#27 Post by shinobar »

The Arabic and Hebrew now readable on lupq-004. Plus lang_pack_ar_he-lupq-0.1.pet available for a trial.
I am not sure on the L-toR or R-to-L issue.
Calling for your report.

fribidi

#28 Post by upnorth »

Would this version enable right>left script?

./jwm-492-i18nl -v
JWM vsvn-492 by Joe Wingbermuehle
compiled options: confirm fribidi icons png shape xft xinerama xpm xrender
system configuration: /etc/system.jwmrc

the jwm in lupq is only missing fribidi, which is necessary for right>left script.
/usr/bin/jwm.lupq -v
JWM vsvn-492 by Joe Wingbermuehle
compiled options: confirm icons png shape xft xinerama xpm xrender

Since 2 years, jwm is enough to cover my needs.
What could be the size of lupq.iso if icewm is removed?
[It could be interesting for running lupq on old PC's (i.e. with low sized RAM ...for instance 128MB) ]

Hi shinobar,
on lupq-003, got this error while opening a .ps file which is readable in pup420.
This the error code I got.
I think it could be a problem of missing installed font, does'nt it?

Code: Select all

Could it be the same problem as the one mentionned here?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... eb4b598a35
There is a puppy-fonts.tar.gz file proposed by zigbert (thanks Sigmund!) - could it help and where to place those fonts?

Thanks for any answer
Cheers, Charlie

Hope it is okay to ask.

I am in Quirky 1.2 now so can not look. I mean which come on first by default?

How do I know if I am using jwm or the icewm version on the lupq I did test yesterday?
What could be the size of lupq.iso if icewm is removed?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum

Thanks.
Try the updated script of 'rc.country' attached.

Download, extract, and find /etc/rc.d/rc.country.
Overwrite /etc/rc.d/rc.country with it.

Can be.
Extract the attached and find '/usr/share/fonts/misc'. Place the whole directory 'misc' at the corresponding place.
After that, you may have to run on the virtual terminal: EDIT: was not 'fc-chace'... anyway you may not have to.

Code: Select all

fc-cache
It adds Courier, Fixed, and Helvetica. You can see them by 'Gfontsel' at the Desktop Applets on the menu.

again icewm

Both lupu-510 and lupq at this point of time, jwm is the default and switchable to icewm.

Icewm maybe 1MB or so (i am not sure on the ram or on the .iso).
But i think the cost of maintenance what the developers, translators and maintainer have to pay.
I never think it a wise way to have two windowmanager on one distribution.
I know many guys like icewm and we have developers good at icewm. But still i think icewm can be a additional package for whom like it.

One windowmanager for one distribution. Then jwm or icewm?
I know some trouble with jwm, but is it significant such as we must move to icewm?

OK I did that- Eastern US is not correct- if I set it to -5GMT it is fine and stays upon reboot. I will check my settings on lupu 508 and QuickSet003 and see what I used.

Hi shinobar,
thanks for the misc_fonts.tar.gz . I'll get a try on it soon.

On lupq-004 now as on lupq-003 (on frugal as on live-cd session):
using Abiword, bold characters are not bold displayed.

Cheers, Charlie

Hi again shinobar,
many thanks for lupq-004
mtpaint version was 3.34.40 in lupq-003
Is there any problem that led to return back to mtpaint version 3.31 ?
(I noticed it worked nice in lupq-003 even after setup locale to french)
Any possibility to upgrade to 3.34.40 in next lupq?
Or simply install the corresponding v-3.34.40 mtpaint's pet? (where to find it?)
Thanks again
Cheers, Charlie

Thanks Shinobar. Actually I quoted Charlie6 from here

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 126#443126

My personal Q was how one know which of them on use and your answer is that JWM is the default.

So probably me have never tested icewm then.

I will dl 004 today and test it on an old Packard Bell A6 laptop.
I have 002 now and that worked good.

Edit

Upgraded from 002 to 004 and it works.

I tested Opera browser this time but that one seems to fail on some Flash or they have updated and wants one to do same?

I'm back in Quirky again and will test if same sites fail in Quirky.

Thanks for all effort you put into a version that many all over the world can use with local languages.
