Can someone name the wireless router(s) and cards/internal devices which work with Puppy please, as I would like to know so that I will buy a compatible one?

Check out MadWifi....They provide support for Atheros chipsets...


I use DLink DWL-G510 (rev b1) PCI adapter and DWL-G630 (rev d1) CardBus (pcmcia) adapters...In the next few days I'll be compiling the modules for use in Puppy......

btw:The CardBus adapter works better in linux than in Win98 or Win2k..

But Dlink aren't the only ones.

You can even set up a PC as a Bridge\Access Point using these drivers.

The only drawback is that MadWifi's Ah-Hoc mode is 'broken'

Yes, it does need to be updated. i wrote the NdiswrapperPuppy wiki article, but there are problems with Puppy version 1.0.3.

The ndiswrapper executable is missing from /usr/bin, but loadndisdriver is in /sbin.

Adding John's packages (perl and ndiswrapper) are fine, but there is something amiss with the pciutils package. I tried installing a slackware tgz package that allowed the ndiswrapper -l to display correctly that the hardware is present, but modprobe ndiswrapper fails to see the hardware properly.

No wireless extensions as a result with iwconfig.

Now, my wireless card seems to be acting up as of late, so this may be a hardware issue on my end.

Once I sort this out, I will update the article.

Well, a fair number of cards. The ndiswrapper wiki list shows which ones that have been shown to work with the Windows drivers.

It seems that the atheros chipset cards work well with MadWifi.

I'll have to look at my other box and see what I did, that has the atheros chipset. I do know that the Linuxant drivers do work on this chipsets, but this is not open source.

The problem is, that most models have several revisions, so that you need to know what specific revision your card is, to know exactly what chip it uses.

I wish I could remember the link to the wireless matrix, that shows most of the cards out there and the status of Linux drivers. If I find it again, I will post it, as a reference.

with a compatible card, will puppy do WPA with AES encryption?
I would hate to have to lower the security of my network just so that puppy can play.
