Subject description: Replacement for Streamtuner with Streamripper		  
It would be great to have Tunapie for Puppy. Been using Streamtuner and Streamripper, but it is no longer being developed as far as I can tell.
The plugin for Shoutcast has also been problematic for awhile.

Currently using MacPup Foxy 3.0 with 2.6.30.5

OK, no-one else has responded, so....

I would try this:

http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/tunapie

First, make a backup copy of your pupsave (so you can restore to your current point, if things go very bad).

Get the .deb file, and install it. Run your program from the command line and note any missing dependencies.

Download those, and install them, re-test. Repeat this process until it works, or you decide it won't work...

I have found that a great many .deb packages will install straight up.

I got Tunapie working in Luci-212 installing it from lucid repo and 8 dependencies. I left some dependencies out.

There is also now Streamtuner2 available. Streamtuner2-2.0.3a.sfs (for Lucid Puppy, Slackpup or Lighthouse Pup)

Thanks for the responses. I'm a real noob, especially when it comes to the terminal but I'm going to try to make this work. A few questions for Retrotechguy:

After downloading the Tunapie .deb file I'm assuming I would then install it in /usr/bin, and any library dependencies I would install in /usr/lib, is that correct? If Running Tunapie from the terminal fails after all dependencies are satisfied - then I can assume it won't work - correct?

If you simply click on the .deb file, it will install itself (these packages are designed by the supplier to correctly install themselves, in the correct location). Do likewise with any libraries you need to install.

Puppy "knows" what .deb files are, just as it knows .pet files (the main difference is that .pet programs typically have all required libraries built into them, and have undergone some level of testing -- using a Debian package, you're more-or-less on your own).

The only reason you run the program from the command line because it won't report errors (such as missing libs) if you run it from the graphical menu. Once the program is running correctly, you can just use the menu link it may have.

Again, make sure you have a current backup of your pupsave (sometimes installing software will overwrite an existing library, and break other software -- this way you can trivially get back to your current point).

p.s. regarding your question above -- when manually placing programs in bin directories, you need to know WHICH bin directory it should go in (there are several different ones). Much better to let the installer do it, whenever possible. Also, this makes it so the Puppy Package Manager (ppm) knows about the program.

Thanks again RetroTechGuy - I've used the command line to run apps to see what is missing but I did not realize that .deb files would be "understood" by Puppy. Good to learn something every day that keeps me from borking my system. . Will give it a try.

I would use and test it. Have you queried ftp uploading site for all your Lucid Puppy pets ? It would be useful and helpful for all Lucid Puppy users. People could install all wanted pets at the same time.

I will look into making a new .pet for this at some point as the tunapie .pet i made for Puppy Squeeze (Debian) is only 8mb so this ubuntu version must have something that is not needed.
