XOPup-V3 (Cups Printer setup problem)

#1 Post by rrolsbe »

I did not spend any effort trying to figure out why the CUPS printer setup didn't work. It works fine on my other computers using Lucid 5.1. Does the CUPS setup work for anyone using the Puppy XOPup-v3 tarball on the XO-1 OLPC?

Regards, Ron

Update:

Looks like nothing is listening at localhost port 631; therefore, the http printer setup page can't be displayed to configure printing. In the past I set up my network printer via the command line only, need to dust off those brain cells.

I never printed from the XO-1 and it is conceivable  that I have the service turned off ! (I do it usually in XO builds to save resources).
Pls make sure that is not the case (I'm away now) and let us know (preferably in the XOpup thread - just saw this post...)
Thx

Edit Sure enough the CUPS services is off
Go to Menu->System->boot manager click on the bottom button (system cervices), activate CUPS and reboot.

XOPup-V3 (Cups Printing problem SOLVED)

Thanks for the advice worked like a charm. Because the XOpup thread is getting so long, I thought maybe it was time to break out some issues into additional treads. Reading the entire thread for a particular issue would take quite a long while . The title of the posts should make it clear that they relate to XOpup running on the OLPC. What do you think? I can go either way.

Thanks Again for all your hard work!
Regards, Ron

The first 28 pages of the thread is history :D so is unlikely to find much there, but you are right, is too long. I think if a couple more issues are solved we can call it "XOpup 1.0" and start a new thread.
The point is that I can not really scan this huge forum for XOpup. Was fortuitous that found this. People can do what they want of course but I would suggest to PM me so I have a chance to take a look.
