Right-click menu

#181 Post by don570 »

This is a pet package that I made especially for Squeeze
to add more options when you right click a file in Rox Filer.

Here's a list of things that it does:

1) It will open up Debian packages and various archives
2) Extract a pet file in current folder.(original file remains)
3) Various image files opened by mtpaint
4) wav file opened by mhwaveedit
5) burn an ISO (must have a blank disk loaded before invoking)
6) MD5sum calculated (pets, squashfs files and ISO's)

mhwaveedit 1.4.20 works with retrovol

#182 Post by don570 »

I now properly compiled mhwavedit 1.4.20
for Lucid puppy. It won't work for other Puppies.

It will now launch retrovol mixer which is convenient.

IN /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit these two lines were commented out. After uncommenting, I got rid of /root/Startup/settime

/etc/rc.d/rc.country ;STATUS=$((STATUS+$?)) #this asks for keyboard layout.

status_func $STATUS

Not sure about rc.country yet, I copied another one to use.

Time is working now without the /Startup hack
But thats just my preference

request for mtpaint

#184 Post by don570 »

I have a request.
Please upgrade to mtPaint-3.34.55
It's easy to compile from git
The newer version would allow the opening of
inkscape svg files.

Yom Kippur just ended, the first thing I did was to open this topic :)

I'm starving to death, but here's a report of what we've got so far:
- Seamonkey problems: solved thanks to dejan555
- New volume/wireless icons thanks to stu90
- Right-click goodies and mhwaveedit thanks to don570
- Time fixed thank to upnorth
- Better DeadBeeF thanks to dejan555
- New ffmpeg taken from Quirky, credit goes to Barry :D
- New multimedia libraries, took two days to make them

Things left to do till 005:
- Add a dummy xorg.conf to fix all touchpad/keyboard layout problems
- Test CUPS and xsane
- Upgrade mtpaint, go over all applications and find out what applications are old or don't have locales
- Do the funky static Seamonkey experiment (!!!)

Good job guys, we're very close to 005, I'll do my best to integrate all the goodies and post an ISO till Wednesday. I got a new job and tommorow is my first day, I'm supposed to work on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at least for now, that's why Wednesday is the D-Day :)

That new seamonkey package is compiled on 004 :)
I couldn't throw out composer because then it breaks mail too but it doesn't make any difference in size if disabled anyway.
It works smooth so far :)
BTW, here's safebrowse script from dpup I only changed firefox command to launch seamonkey.

Hope you had a comfortable fast Iguleder. Replenish your fuel supplies for the job ahead!

I'm writing this using Puppy Squeeze 004 now. I reckon this is turning out to be a significant version of Puppy - maybe one of the fastest Puppies ever - so it's worth the effort.

I hooked up the Openoffice 3.2 sfs from Pupeee to Puppy Squeeze. I don't think I've seen a faster start-up of Openoffice on any other Linux distro that I can think of.

Cheers

You have good ears! It sounds better because it defaults to sinc interpolation rather than linear. Linear interpolation rebuilds the audio waveform by connecting sample points with a simple straight line, sinc uses some extra CPU to create a smoother transition between samples. The final result is like the difference between a square wave and a sine wave, smoother, more detailed, open sound.

Dpup is back in development! Yay! :D

Fast and stable as usual! Got Firefox from getfirefox.com.

Aqualung is from debian-squeeze-main in PPM. It found all dependencies except this one:

Installed Wine-1.1.43-Lucid.pet then ExactAudioCopy-0.99-Lucid-Wine.pet without a hitch.

Nice wallpapers, I'll add them to the zzSqueeze_Utilities pet once I figure out how to make a dummy xorg.conf :)

Also, I forgot something ... should we rename the "calc" icon to something else, more descriptive? "Spreadsheet" is too long.

I forgot to report what may be a bug..
After running Squeeze for the first time, a save-file can be created. A window then opens giving you the choice of a normal save-file or an encrypted one. Now this window wasn't centered on screen, but somewhat lowered. The result was I could not see the buttons at the bottom of the window. Could not move this window either.
So, in total despair  , I hit Enter and so created an encrypted save-file...which wasn't what I wanted.

Maybe this is not Squeeze related, maybe it was just a momentary hiccup. Wanted to report it anyway.

Quickpet installs okay, but the links to the pets are broken.
I looked at repos.conf. inside quickpet, everything seems there.
I guess this is not really important at the moment, just reporting it.

Are we still in the phase where new ideas can be proposed..?
I don't know how difficult this would be, but how about making the PrintScreen key on the keybourd active?
I think that would be really a nice touch.

Perhaps it could open Stu's GUI'd scrot?
Stu's Pet installed okay in Squeeze:

Good you warn about this. Can somebody make a screencath on what it says so one know how to use tab or something to make the right choice please

There are other puppy puplets that act that way too.

I wish there was some way to know what the txt says there in the unknown.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

OK guys I've been doing some fluxbox hacking today and am pleased to announce this build compiled on 004 with menu button hack found here

Features: Menu button on functional taskbar with systray/clock and workspace switcher
Added fluxbox menu generator compatible with puppy's xdg menus (I believe it's rarsa's work, many thanks!)
Added line to fixmenus that automatically refreshes menu after package install but there's also entry under fluxbox menu to refresh too.
You can change wallpaper from fluxbox menu.
Pet includes modified wmreboot, wmpoweroff etc. scripts to allow shutdown from fluxbox menu.
I added few keyboard shortcuts (Winkey + S = mtpaint screenshot; +G = geany; + B = defaultbrowser; +R = rox)
All other usual fluxbox features as pseudo transparency etc...

I removed many styles that come by default to save size but I made separate pet for them.
FluxConf is also available as separate pet

LINK: fluxbox_menubtn-1.1.1-i486-squeeze.pet 701 KB, no additional deps needed
Other optional packages and themes are here:

Wow, dpup looks great with Fluxbox

I'm off to start the 005 work ... does anyone know how to activate the Windows/printscreen keys in JWM? Let's bind them to the menu and mtpaint snapshot thing.

Iguleder. I think you can bind PrtSc button to executable using xbindkeys-config. Here is my pet made in luci for xbindkeys-config. It is easy to use. Just play with it.

I know, it is big. I used ubuntu repo, not compiling and I didnt check are all dependencies really needed.

Also I dont know how spesific the button info is. For laptops for example sleep button has been quite generic so it works independent of laptop model.
