Subject description: Gxine

to install gxine download this:

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-e2cf69be.html [Link no longer good as of 6-8-2011]

Extract this file and install the following pets in order:

ffmpeg
xine-lib
gxine

open console and type gxine.
if libmozjs.so is required, you can download firefox
if not yet installed and
symlink /usr/lib/firefox/libmozjs.so to /usr/lib

Create shortcuts:
add symlink of /ur/bin/gxine to the desktop
or open defaultmediaplayer on the desktop as text
and replace it with exec gxine "$@"

Joshua37,

Thanks for posting this. I just installed it on Lucid 5.1.1.

Could you add to this and talk a little about codecs for the player? When I had Gxine under 4.2.5, I had to install the extra_codecs_pack-1-1, then I pointed the demuxer to /usr/lib/win32.

I'm not having success with that procedure yet. Could you go into this a little? I have good video so far, but no sound.

Thanks.

Eathray

There are .pets of Xine floating around that seem to work in most Puppies. Try the package manager for your Puppy and look in different repositories.

Anyone else have anything to add? In all versions of Puppy, Xine and Gxine have worked better for me than any other multimedia player.
