Before I start credit must be given where due to rerwin for his efforts and help, without it I would never have got it working and would still be stuck having to use the internet on windows. Crying or Very sad

For Puppy 4.3.1 & Lucid Puppy 5 works also on Quirky 1.2 and Lighthouse Pup 4.8.5

This "how-to" is for the ZTE K3565Z HSDPA USB modem, branded in New Zealand as the Vodafone Vodem and sold on a pre-paid contract but this may work for other variations of the device.

Step 1: Only for 4.3.1 so if you are running a newer kernel chances are you have these already and can proceed to step 2.
Some extra files are required for Puppy 4.3.1 and can be found on page 16 of the bugs fix thread

If you are using Puppy 4.3.1 make sure you install these packages first

Step 2:

Boot with your vodem connected.

Step3

Open pupdial (Click the "connect" button on the desktop and selecting "connect via dial-up modem" or type
Code:
pupdial
into a terminal)
Probe for the modem by clicking probe then probe in the next window, if all goes well it shoud find a modem at ttyUSB1 it will apply the required settings and set it as the default modem but it won't work so after it has probed and found it at ttyUSB1 close pupdial.

Step 3:

Now go to /etc/ and find the file wvdial.conf and click to open it.
Change the line:

Code:
Modem = ttyUSB1

to

Code:
Modem = ttyUSB3

save and exit.

Step 4:
Run pupdial, click on the ttyUSB3 button and and follow the message boxes to set it as the default modem. It should return you to pupdial.

Step 5:
Almost there:

Now in pupdial put these values in the following: (New Zealand Only)

Phone Number: *99#
Username: leave default or "vodafone"
Password: leave default or "vodafone"
Wireless APN: www.vodafone.net.nz

and make sure Stupid mode, Auto reconnect, dial tone check and busy check are all selected.

Press connect..... you should be online....

I will watch this post in case anyone has any difficulties, otherwise send me a personal message and if I can I will help.

Subject description: pet packages and settings required for 3 and vodafone

I'm running BrowserLinux which I believe is based on Lucid Puppy Linux.

I had to install the following packages

libswv.pet
libpcap-0.8.1-i686.pet
3G_pupdial-12_patch_to_P4.3-beta2-1.pet
usb-storage-ZTE-patch-k2.6.25.16.pet

I had an error with pppd failing 'error code = 127' which was fixed with libpcap-0.8.1-i686.pet is installed.

For 3 in the UK I used the following parameters in pupdial for a ZTE MF622 dongle

Phone Number: *99#
Username: three
Password: three
Wireless APN: 3internet

In 'Line Status' I have everything checked.

For Vodafone in the UK I used the following parameters in pupdial for a Huawei k3565

Phone Number: *99***1#
Username: wap
Password: wap
Wireless APN: pp.internet

In 'Line Status' I have everything checked.

Hope this helps someone, it took me a while to resolve.
