No French keymap in Puppy? |
|
Dear All,
I have a problem with Puppy 1.0.1 : the french keyboard layout does not have the letters é, è, à and ç. I have replaced the file fr.map by the corresponding file in Mandrake 10 but the problem is intact.
What can I do ?
Thank you.
By the way, is there a french Puppy user in the audience ?

not familiar with the French Keyboard layout really, or how get the accents and cedillas in the right place, BUT there are a couple of things that I recall from the last keyboard mapping I looked at.
the computer MUST be rebooted for the changes to take place,
if the AltGR key is used to get special symbols then there's a good chance it won't work within a browser ( for some reason it's disabled in Mozilla etc. )
Are you sure that it's the fr.map that is being called by your system?
( double check this in /.etc/keymap. ) it could feasibly be calling another file instead, so changing the fr.map file won't have any effect anyway
Bon Chance
( if you can - post a pic of the keyboard layout and I'll have a go at the file - see if I have any luck ! )

Cher Romain,
There are 2 ways to try it in Mouse/Keyboard Wizard.
For some layouts only the second (Choose keyboard layout, older 2-letter method) works
it may work in all programs except Rxvt/Ash, this is the case of my brazilian keyboard
Bonne chance !

Dear All,
I have solved the first half of the problem by importing the fr-latin1 keymap from Mandrake. By comparing with the fr.map file used by Puppy, I found many differences.
Whereas some apps (Abiword, mp, Planmaker, Sylpheed, ... ) recognize this keymap, others (rxvt, beaver, ... ) don't.
Is there a simple way to force rxvt to use the right keymap ?
Merci beaucoup.
Romain.

I think that you should replace the pair rxvt / ash by aterm / bash ...
see some accented letters in the screenshot
