Convincing humanitarian agencies to adopt Puppy Linux

#1 Post by gplsoftware.org »

I have created a website, http://www.gplsoftware.org/ to try to promote the use of Puppy Linux by NGOs (Non-Governmental Agencies) by their operations teams in the Third World. Please offer suggestions for improvement.

While your effort is laudable, it seems uncertain what you are really promoting. You can be convincing perhaps if you can discuss more what kind of NGO you have in mind, and trying to reach out to them with a few of your own initiatives.

As of now the impression I get from what you are doing is broadcasting a website and promoting a product. BTW, you seem to be the first member to use a website for username. I wonder what others think about it?

* BTW = By the way

Edit: Thanks to your latest post below, it is clear now that you will be drafted to the education project of Puppy :D The site education.puppylinux.net will be online in a few days ...

Actually, I was trying to get the website up, running and perfected enough that NGO's would actually take it seriously.

It seems that using Puppy as a portable desktop, like when you are at work and don't want to mess up your work computer, is what most people are talking about. I like the idea of tossing the hard drive, and that is why I included the hardware reference. I really don't care who uses Puppy for their IT needs, I just think it is a good idea.

Right now I am setting up a Puppy workstation for my Wife in her classroom. Most of the tests the kids are taking are online through the textbook publisher, so Puppy with the default Mozilla browser works fine.

Maybe I should change the focus of my website to school teachers rather than NGOs. I initially thought of NGOs because I work for one, but it doesn't really matter to me. I just think people should consider a diskless, hard drive less workstation with Puppy as the centerpiece.

on to a winner . . .

:)

Comma gone and the Crusty is in . . .
What you say is all interesting - I liked the product on page 3

:)

I would develop the project and ideas and there are several projects here for EduPuppy or RescuePuppy (aka StBernard Puppy) that have been suggested and some work done.

Good ideas are easy - follow through . . . I would love to have Puppy on a CF device that plugs into the IDE cable drive on my HD
This incidentally is how Puppy started - way back - it is also how the thin client on our shopping page works

- If you buy one of those Barry gets $10

Do it, make it available and we have something - otherwise what is there? - another good idea :(
If you do budget in a donation to Barry or the Puppy Foundation and sweet . . . :)

Hope that is constructive? :)
It is meant to be - you are on to a winner . . .

I have been keeping an eye on http://education.puppylinux.net/ and haven't seen anything yet. I think though, that I will drop my effort and put everything behind that initiative. Thank you so very much for the "heads up".
