does anyone know if there is a perl pet anywhere for version 5.8 or later. I want to have a go at my second package for puppy and this is needed.

the included version is 5.8.8 - you may need to make a symlink or something - depending on what random crap autotools is using to determine your perl version

Hopefully I won't need to have to have the dev as a dependancy, I am having "fun" translating the build instructions at present.

That was why I was looking for a standalone package.

perl, {python}, make, gcc, ld, etc.... are build only requirements for most things... depends on the package you are building.... which you never bothered to mention. I don't read minds - only code.

btw you can always dump the sfs to a dir, delete what you don't want and then dir2sfs.
