Enna Media Center

#1 Post by Geoffrey »

I've notice a few people wanting to try Enna Media Center, so I made a sfs of it that works on quirky 1.20, it seem to run ok though it does have a few bugs that are Enna related.

I found that it plays video much smoother than gnome player and the Gui is not to slow even though I have a 64meg onboard video card, it's home directory starts @ /root so it doesn't seem to find mounted drives but works with system links ok, also tried it with quirky NOP 1.20 but system linking doesn't appear to work with it, should work with quirky 1.30 though I haven't tried it.

The sfs is 531 items, totalling 26.6 MB when extracted which is smaller than I thought it would be.

Give it a go and see what you think of it, it could be the making of a excellent puppy media center with a bit more work.

Edit:
You can download the sfs and the md5 txt if needed, cut and paste the link below

Code: Select all

http://cid-9fb1af655daa9a9b.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Linux/enna^_0.4^_quirky^_120.sfs
that should fix the link problem

I've been testing it a bit more, it seems that Dbus is a major problem with it at the moment, this may accounts for it not mounting partitions.

I get this read out from the terminal

Code: Select all

enna: could not connect to socket
enna: Connection refused
ERR:e_dbus e_dbus_signal.c:71 cb_name_owner() Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.Hal': no such name
ERR:e_dbus e_dbus_signal.c:71 cb_name_owner() Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.Hal': no such name
ERR:e_dbus e_dbus_signal.c:71 cb_name_owner() Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.Hal': no such name

Also found some videos the sound went out of sync, mainly in full screen mode, but this could be my video which isn't the best.

The video supposedly works better with Vlc player installed.

Plays files with a system link to a network drive folder but will not access folders within it.

I haven't found any solutions to these problems yet.

Installed Enna on my ubuntu 10.04 laptop, it runs very slow and has much the same problems as I do with Quirky so it's defiantly a Enna fault.

link=dead again. Just sore you new post. It's not a must have as I have XBMC. There are dbus PET(s) on the forums if that helps.

I use xbmc as well, on a xbox, thats my main media center and I like it, just thought I'd try getting enna to work in puppy seeing there wasn't a pet or sfs for it and there were a few talking about it earlier in the year.

At lest with puppy there are ways to work around the problems with it, more so than other distros like ubuntu where some have given up on it.

I tried the GeeXboX version that was painfully slow so as with the ubuntu one, this one on puppy runs quite reasonably quick from a usb stick with 1gig ram and a 1.6ghz cpu, a good video card would be all thats needed to make it run slicker than it does at the moment.

Hi chrome307

Yes it can be made into a pet but it could break something if you uninstalled it, I think the sfs over writes a couple of lib file links in /usr/lib thats not a problem with a sfs though, I'll see if I can sort that out and make a pet for it , you should only need a pet if its a hdd install of puppy.
You could install to the hdd with sfs installer but be warned there maybe be no turning back.
