This file does not seem to be amended even when Java is removed or updated.

This is the path:

Code:
/root/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/

The file was generated using the OpenOffice sfs and Java pet I described earlier in this thread. If anyone wants a copy of the file let me know.

Should that be
Code:
/root/.config/.openoffice.org/3/config
?

No. The path I quoted above is correct.

Interseting because on my system (which dont work) the path to that file is as I typed it, a sub directory of /root/.config

Will test with the change.

Guys, if you can sort out that path, post the file here (gzipped) and I will put it into Woof.

I suppose that putting it into Woof won't cause any problem, and it will mean all the existing OO SFS's will work.

Terryphi, thanks for the great detective work tracking this down. It really was a show-stopper.

Hi, Barry!

Consider the claim from Mobeus and bigpup regarding the refresh rate(vertical frequency of the screen).
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=60712&start=90
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=61151

The point is the lowest frequency is not always at the first column of the list the xrandr reports.
Think the xorgwizard, the xrandshell and .xinitrc affects.
Maybe i can make a patch. But of couse if you can do, it is better...

I need to put a lot of thought into this and other resolution setting issues in Xorg Wizard. I will put this on hold for a little while.

Right now I want to focus on getting Wary to release status, fixing bugs only. Well, I know that those resolution/frequency issues are bugs, but involve a lot of work to satisfactorily fix, so will tackle it a bit later.

I have tried this every which way, but my system still crashes. Bummer.
Intel video, Xorg, 1GB ram, Frugal to HD. Just dont know where to look next.
I managed to load the spreadsheet once and all was working, but then when I loaded the Writer module, it crashed, so my guess is this is something small.

Barry: I have attached the file.

The path is /root/.openoffice.org/3/user/config/

DaveS queried the path but I have checked in another distro and the path above seems standard for version 3.

It probably needs wider testing before you put in Woof. As you can see the path is specific to OO version 3. Is anyone using an earlier version?

We seem to be using similar hardware. Are you using your own OO sfs or the one I used? When I tested I ran Writer first followed by Calc. I also successfully opened (but did not test further) all the other components. There is one thing I did as soon as I got OO running:

Tools>Options>Java Uncheck " Use a Java runtime environment". I always do this even if Java is present. It may or may not make a difference.

The Puppy Package Manager should not even be listing 'coreutils' package, as it is a system package already built into Puppy.

So, if PPM did not offer it, did you download the .deb and install it?

Why?

Puppy is a cutdown distro and only has some of the utilities from coreutils, others are provided by busybox. I don't know specifically what has gone wrong when you installed coreutils, but it is not a package that you should be installing.

PostPosted: Thu 28 Oct 2010, 08:21    Post subject: OO crash fix does not work for g-OO or LibreOffice

Barry: Do not put my fix for the OO crash into Woof.

Things are more complicated because some people are now using go-OO sfs or LibreOffice sfs. I have done a quick test and my fix does not work for these. Code from go-OO has been incorporated in LibreOffice. LibreOffice creates its own directory but go-OO uses /.openoffice.org so there is a possibility that it would break go-OO.

Generally, users should be discouraged from having more than one of these office suites on their systems and should clean up well after removing.

as I told on page 2 I had been interessted to compile busybox also after recocnizing that there is a difference with busybox 1.8.* that are listened in the 4 series and that had been troubling me once because the 1.15 is not listed as 1.15 but 20090725. I thought 1.8 would be 1.18 Embarassed

worsest only : modem modules hadn't been loaded.

And there are many links to busybox and make install overwrote a lot. The system still booted but with very few drivers.
Today I detected that even `sed` had been replaced....

First time this error message popped up I was confused but now I got myself adjusted to it.

DaveS: I've now tested with a go-OpenOffice sfs and your LibreOffice sfs.
The fix does not work for either of them. (This is not surprising as go-OO code has been incorporated in LO code.) I ran your LO sfs in Lupu511 with Java to look at the paths and files. In LO the path to /root/..../config is different from OO. The LO path is /root/.config/.libreoffice/3/user/config .
I used the javasettings_linux_x86.xml file from Lupu in Wary090k2.6.35.7 without success.

LO ang go_OO are much more complicated to hack than OO 3.1.1. I am going to stick with OO 3.1.1 because it does all I need.

Even though it runs in Lupu with Java removed it throws up complaining dialogs frequently. Just typing a few words in Writer and spellchecking is enough to make it complain! Clearly LO is going to rely very heavily on Java. I am sympathetic to the reasons they forked but not sympathetic enough to use Java!

On my system here that uses an ATI Radeon 3450 video card, all three office packages crash when using XORG.

However, GoOffice and LibreOffice both work OK when using XVESA in k2.6.34.6

The above 2 must have some adverse effect on the standard OO installation, because it has borked completely.

This ties in with what Terryphi has been saying about cleaning up properly after deleting an OO family version.

OK. Here is LibreOffice spreadsheet and OpenOffice writer both running happily side by side on Wary '30 kernel. Now THAT'S what I am talkin' about! Transparency is enabled as you can see, but it borks mplayer.
Quirky13 can do this too, but mplayer is NOT borked.
