Wary Puppy 0.9.4 (094) feedback Sub_title: Yet another one! |
|
Another Wary, and yet another kernel! See announcement:
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=01906
Hopefully, though, this one is close to a Release Candidate (fingers crossed).
And, is this 2.6.31.14 kernel "The One"?

Wary Puppy 0.9.4 (094) feedback Sub_title: ati |
|
I have 094 installed to an 8gb flash drive. The commercial ati driver
installed okay. The video driver upgrade wizard is advising to install
the commercial ati driver which is already installed.
The icon for retrovol in the tray is x'ed out but I do have sound.
Hardinfo doesn't give any info on temperature like it did in 092.
I am happy that this pc wasn't shut out by the new (older) kernel in
094.

I have upgraded the firmware tarballs for the Conexant HSF and HCF modems. Attached.
These two files go into /lib/modules/all-firmware/.
If you have such a modem, after downloading these files and placing them at the correct location, delete any line in /etc/modules/firmware.inst.2.6.31.14 with "hcfpcimodem" or "hsfmodem", then reboot.
Note, these tarballs have gone into Woof, so will be in future Woof-built puppies.

Billtoo,
Looking at your snapshot, I see that the Video Upgrade Wizard is displaying some wrong information.
Could you please post the output from running this in a terminal window:
# lspci -nn -m
Also, could you please gzip your xorg.conf file and post it here:
# gzip /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Thanks very much.

OpenOffice Writer, LibreOffice Spreadsheet, Gnumeric, and borked mplayer
Enabling transparency in jwm borks it
Both OpenOffice, LibreOffice and java are running from sfs files. Cool. Printer installed no problem, and Gnumeric does not stall for a few seconds while gathering printer info (it did on 09 and 092). Very close to RC.

I sent you two files in a pm, I hope it worked because the message doesn't show up in my "sent" box.

1) wary 094 clean frugal, sound works, wireless internet works
2) wary 094 second restart upgrade previous warysave
- this time no sound ie muted
- open full window make changes still no sound
- open config window > tray > tray slider was set to "19:Beep..."
- changed to "21:Master..." and sound is ok
This has happened with a previous wary/quirky/puppy but I did not make a note.
Also icons I added to the desktop/pinboard did not show up after the upgrade.
Quite a snappy puppy!
