How to install OpenOffice.Org in Puppy? |
|
I really need openoffice for presentation. I've tried downloading OpenOffice from http://puppylinux.org/wikka/openoffice about 3 times now but every time I try to install it, it goes a little then says the installation failed.
I tried going through the package manager but by default its not present so I had to enable the other repositories (i believe their called) but now Im faced with the dependency train where I need like a million dependencies for one part of openoffice, and its dependencies, and then their decencies and so on so forth
So could someone please tell me how i can get openoffice? I need it for a presentation on Monday

download from here:
http://dokupuppylinux.co.cc/programs:office%20suite#openoffice_321
- download
- rename adding version of puppy you use in filename (e.g: 301 for Puppy 3.01, 431 for Puppy 4.3.1, 501 for Puppy 5.0.1 and so on...) OR with
- menu / bootmanager, load this sfs
- put in /mnt/home/ 8for frugal installs)
- reboot
- now you have openoffice working

Since most of us don't have esp, it would probably help to include which Puppy you're using.
For example, in the latest Luci releases there is a easy to use sfs file in Quickpet for OO.A couple of clicks and it works.

EDIT : I also tried the pet file from DaveS but it also fails t install (took one seond for it to say it failed)
btw, in case anyone wants to know I have like 600 MB left on my storage file (600 MB of 992 MB, I dont know where the other 392MB went when I've only just installed puppy)

Open Office...... Subject description: Open Office sfs file. |

Hi,
Use Open Office sfs file instead of installing, that way you would not have
any space problem either.

LibreOffice better bet? |
|
Unless there is some unusual reason to use OO,
would it not be better for most to use LibreOffice?
LibreO is easy download sfs
and seems very solid on Lu 5.2.8 and Slacko
Seems like LibO is here for the long-haul, and as long as sfs gets updated from time to time, should be long-term user in Puppies?
It has worked well on other puppies - too numerous to mention.
For me L-O Writer has better reliability and handling of larger docs than Abiword.
Any office suite is an investment in learning time, as well as a workhorse and long term availability is a key issue as well as rock solid reliability.

We now would recommend LibreOffice
Using the pull down menu in Slickpet (Puppy 5.3)
will take you to here (via the OpenOffice link)
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/LibreOffice
I tend to use the portable Linux apps version
It works on several of the recent Puppys.
If you dual boot with another Linux
it is likely to work with that too . . .

I think the real issue is how to install a sfs file when running on a full installation of Puppy.
There's a page on the website, HowtoAddSFStoFullInstall, with these steps :
Code: | (from the mounted directory)
# cp -a --remove-destination ./* /mnt/hda2/
# sync |
but this doesn't work since the destination file is /mnt/hdax and the user is supposed to use the very Puppy system where they want the .sfs to be added (!)
I guess replacing with / could work but it is maybe dangerous... If someone can give a reliable advice, I'm interested (I also want to install the Wary DEV and Openoffice on my fresh Wary full install)

hi Botanic
this should do the trick http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=64354
Quote: | FULL install
It also works under FULL install. It installs the sfs as a pseudo-PET, like the sfs_instrallation by 01micko does.
It does not really make pet packages, but directly installs the files from the sfs skipping the files which conflict with the system.
This is not exactly same as loading sfs under frugal install, but works safe and correctly in most case.
The pseudo-PET is listed on the Puppy Package Manager and can uninstall both from the sfs_load and from the PPM.
(Actually, the sfs_load calls the PPM as for uninstallation.) |
