SB Audigy sound

#1 Post by Rhino »

In using the new Puppy1.02RC-Mozilla I have found that my sound now works after I simply go to the Rxvt terminal and type:

modprobe emu10k1

After that the sound works perfectly for DVD and mp3's. I did notice that after I switched from fvwm95 to IceWM I had to to type the command again in Rxvt.

Nice job! :D

Can you let me know some details about your sound card, so when 1.0.2 gets officially released, you won't have to type anything.

Go to the menu Start -> Control panel -> Hardware probe
and click on the "Query PCI" button, then let me know the line about the sound card.
In particular, I need to know the first field, which is two numbers, like this 1234:5678.
Also, click on "Modules" button, see what it reports about sound.

Barry,

I get no output from modules and Query PCI gives me the following even when the sound works.

Keep in mind that there are several variants oif the Soundblaster Live card out there. The normal emk driver woirks on "real non-legacy cards. The trouble is that many are on the market cheap that are legacy, say for the Dell and Gateway systems. If you have one of these, they are a problem.

Look at the card and determine the model number on it, say "CTxxxx". A quick google search on the model number should tell you if you have one of these legacy cards, if you bought it cheap on the web, or if you have a Dell or Gateway system, probably it is one of these legacy cards (if the emk module does not work) .
I love it when a plan comes together

Soundblaster Audigy II not working

#5 Post by JonathanBrickman0000 »

I have a brand-name, not generic or imitation, less than six-month-old, Soundblaster Audigy II, not working in 1.0.3. I did try this:

# modprobe emu10k1
Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.27/modules.dep
/lib/modules/2.4.27/sound/emu10k1.o.gz: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg
/lib/modules/2.4.27/sound/emu10k1.o.gz: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.27/sound/emu10k1.o.gz failed
/lib/modules/2.4.27/sound/emu10k1.o.gz: insmod emu10k1 failed
#

with obvious lack of success. Here is my hardware probe output:
