The number the task tray shows is complex. Barry add more informations on the Freemem applet.

Fresh manual frugal install of Luci-240 on the old P3 test box. On initial boot everything worked....internet,sound and screen resolution. Installed Xorg_High and SeaMonkey. Ran for about 30 minutes and rebooted.Sound muted.
Guess I'll try the zzz pet.

James C: Fortunately, with Luci-240 no rebooting is necessary

Playdayz,
Recommend build the next Luci without 'zzz'. After all, it is experimental still, that is why it is in Quirky.
Build a normal system, and you will be likely to get more direct help from rerwin, regarding any sound or 3G modem issues.
My zzz package replaces a couple of rerwin's scripts, which is why he cannot be so helpful with debugging.
'zzz' should be considered at this stage as a fallback to try if you have insoluble problem with muted sound or 3G modem.

Yes Barry, I already have luci-241pre with the original scripts and will post it later tonight or tomorrow.
But I have noticed that in *both* luci-240 (zzz_scripts) and 241pre (original scripts) that the volume shown in retrovol is changed on reboot. I can set it to Master 50% and Front 50% and on reboot, in both luci's, Master becomes 100% and Front becomes 0%. I have never paid attention to this before, and the sound is not muted in either version but the levels are changed as I describe.
Back with pix. Well, after is on top, before rebooting and after. Is this what people have been seeing? I see it both with the original and the zzz_scdripts. Again I have never paid attention to this before so it could be normal....

Had sound while making last post, not on reboot. Before and after shots.
FWIW, no problems in Quirky 140 on the same test boxes.

I just tested and luci-239 does not change the volume levels in retrovol, but luci-240 (zzz_scripts) and luci-241pre (original scripts) *both* change the volume levels.
Does that suggest the problem is not with either set of scripts, but somewhere else in the latest Woof (which was first applied to luci-240--luci-239 had the previous Woof)? Or, in both sets of scripts.

While we're having fun..
To address bigpup's (and probably a bunch more user's) issue of not selecting the correct graphics driver I am completely rewriting the graphics test.. much simpler. It's more like Barry's video_upgrade_wizard now which I believe is more accurate at selecting the correct driver.. (oh, bigpup.. I found the correct database for your card .. 173.XX ). The good thing is that no one will notice anything except that they will have the correct selection made for them!
This will be part of the latest quickpet when available (later today).
Cheers

Something else I noticed about the audio volume when rebooted. Many people have been getting muted sound. I have not had that but I have noticed that the volumes are changed when rebooting--two messages above.
I have now noticed that the volume on the third audio card is *not* changed when rebooting--it's volume is preserved just as is. (My second card is not really a sound card.)
So how come it is doing things to the first audio card only?

I've recently updated my P3 machine from 238 to 240 (full install). Everything works great so far! I don't have any sound issues and all my files and bookmarks were preserved.
