SofMaker 2008 Available for Free!

#1 Post by Frank Cox »

I discovered that SoftMaker has made the 2008 version available today which is ironic because I just bought it for half price today, not that it would have made any difference.

I have used 2008 since last year and it is all it's cracked up to be, the best Office Suite period!

One weird problem I have with 2010 is that I was unable to remove the locals I did not want which was a snap with 2008. Hopefully their techs wil;l have the answer.

Maybe it's time to get permission to add it to Puppy?
They should let us do it now!

Almost forgot-you can get a key and download the software here.

I never bothered to make a pet, I see no need.
Just open the tarball in pupzip and remove all the files that end in abbreviations for languages you don't need like .ru for Russian, .hu for Hungarian etc.
Note .es is for Spanish {Espanol} . Be sure to answer yes when it ask you if you want to save the changes . This will reduce the file to about 33 megs. If anyone wants to offer a better way please do, I just made this one up one day.
Then extract all the files to root . Hit F12 or Menu and go to Utilities Execute a Program . There is a file in the directory created in root called "installs office" . Drag it in to the window of execute a program and click run in terminal . Of course you can open a terminal window and drag it there as well . Then just answer all the questions and then type fixmenus in a terminal menu. This should add Textmaker to documents in menu , Presentations to Graphics etc. If you have never used the program you have to put your email address and registration key in the first time.

Enjoy!

Are you sure that this software is still free? I don't see any reference to this but prices at Softmaker's website...

It appears to be free, this is the email I received

Code: Select all

Dear valued SoftMaker customer:

Thank you for choosing SoftMaker Office for Linux.

1. Download

SoftMaker Office 2008 for Linux: http://www.softmaker.de/lh-download-linux-en.htm

2. Installation

To install the software, simply double-click on the file you just downloaded. Then follow the instruction that are shown on the screen.

If you chose the .tgz installer, start the installation script that becomes visible after you unpack the downloaded file.

All three installation options integrate SoftMaker Office into your start menu and associate document types with SoftMaker Office.

When you start SoftMaker Office for the first time, you will be asked to input your name, e-mail address and serial number. Here is what you should input:

Name:
            XXXX

E-mail:

Serial number:
            XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

IMPORTANT: Type in the name, e-mail address and serial number EXACTLY in the way listed above as the serial number is based on your name and e-mail address.

Please keep a copy of this e-mail. You will need this data when you reinstall the software at a later time.

It's still working, have had no warning that its a trial and going by the email its for keeps, just go HERE and fill in the the requirements, then it will take you to the downloads and check your email and install it, there is no mention of money to be paid, I just downloaded and installed prior to this posting, so it's still available.

Thanks Geoffrey,

The link mentioned above by you is still working as I have downloaded the

softmaker office suite 2008 for WINDOWS as well as LINUX and

got serial number through E-mail.

I suggest for others to try this link immediately to obtain the serial number.

I have also tested the sfs file available from MU's site in wary-500 using

the obtained serial no. and it works fine.

Thanks once again and wishing success to others.

charnisingh.
