VOIP Softphone SJPhone

#1 Post by sindi »

http://www.sjlabs.com free download precompiled binary for linux 2005.
The Mac and XP binaries work, the pocketpc halfway (caller cannot hear, callee can).
Puppy sound is working (cs4232 legacy). But I cannot move the speaker and mike vol controls up from zero volume in the main screen.
Also got no sound in another linux.
Audio is /dev/dsp, which I don't see in /dev (just adsp, which did not work).
What do I need to change? Could not figure out PSIP yet for phoning with.

You've probably lost interest in this thread months ago but in case you still want an answer:

Mine is set up with:
Sound Devices: /dev/dsp
Mixer Devices: /dev/mixer
Channel: pcm

Volume can be controlled from within SJphone or from Alsamixer.

Use the 1.65 version of SJphone, it's the best:

The skin can be turned off if you prefer the traditional interface (like I do).

softphones with no sound

#3 Post by sindi »

Does anyone have ANY softphone working properly with Puppy Linux?
I got x-lite working with iMac and iBook. In Puppy it uses 98%
of cpu time trying to load on one desktop and on another it loads
but then no sound. Zoiper works in 2K and iMac, and in Puppy I can
phone someone with a voxalot number (I use voxalot) but if I phone
a regular number they cannot hear me. Also the second little box
that appears above the main one is misplaced, on top of the main one,
and you need to move the main one away with a mouse to hang up.
And after a while sound stops working at all and I need to exit
and restart. On a second desktop I get no sound at all.

SJphone works in Basiclinux on a desktop where it does not work
with Puppy Linux (but on any computer, it won't dial voxalot numbers,
only regular phone numbers). Basiclinux won't work with gtk2
so I cannot try Zoiper. Sometimes in Puppy I cannot select
ANY sound out (mike), etc.

I could not get pjsua to even let me dial.

Are these programs just not sufficiently tested for linux?

I gave up and set up two 300MHz Win2K laptops as phones, so now
I have to run two computers at a time if I want phone calls.

Yes, I have SJphone, X-lite and Twinkle working with no problem. Current versions of Zoiper are not a good choice unless you compile it yourself as I think the only binaries they offer now are compiled for specific distributions.

Sjphone works everywhere that I have tried. It's just a matter of unpacking it.

Also you could give Twinkle a go as it was compiled specifically for Puppy.

I honestly can't follow why you are jumping around to all those different operating systems and desktops. Which one do you want to actually use?
