Problems with the new ALSA sound system

#1 Post by gplsoftware.org »

Ever since Puppy 1.08 dropped OSS and picked up ALSA for sound I haven't been able to get my computers with AC'97 sound to work. I purchased a Sound Blaster sound card from my local computer store, but Puppy 1.08 and 1.08r1 still won't produce sound. Puppy 1.07 and earlier versions worked great. What is the problem?

Have you run Setup Alsa Sound in the menu you get when you click the desktop Setup icon?

Another possibility is to try Puppy2 alpha and see what happens.

Same Problem with alsasound. Until puppy 1.0.7 everthing works. When changing to alsa, i got no sound. My soundcard is a AC97 on a sis-chip motherboard, loaded as snd-intel. Only when i compile alsa i get a sound. But when i restart restart nothing works again.
how can i get back to oss in puppy 1.0.9 alpha2?

OSS driver

You were right, it didn't work. However, the driver they posted wasn't for my chipset. I posted a question on the other discussion asking where I could download OSS drivers for other chipsets.

Tried the new puppy 2-alpha28.4. The new kernel comes up with working sound for the ac97! you can get and install the new kernel 2.6.16 - and it should work.
