PostPosted: Sun 09 Jan 2011, 10:49    Post_subject: Simple Network Wizard
Sub_title: It makes not simple

The Simple Network Wizard(SNS) is removed in wary-500j04.
The reason is simply it does not work for me.

SNS does not support fixed IP, it may be one of the reason it is called 'simple'.
For the reason, the SNS assumes it is used with the help of the Network Wizard.

This situation makes the things complicated.
The original wary offers SNS first. If i try it and suppose got success, then it asks to set it as the default connecting tool. Its not so bad.
If i failed with the SNS, it offers next try with other tool. I try Network Wizard and suppose got success, it asks again to set it as the default connecting tool.
Long journey!

PostPosted: Sun 09 Jan 2011, 12:19    Post_subject: TO DO

TO DO:
  • Slim down the applications
  • Improve the switching Xvesa to Xorg (Now requires typing as don570 reported)
  • Improve sound driver detection (Now fails sometime)

Hi Shinobar.
Live DVD first boot .
When i choose my settings "1024-768-24" and was asked to restart,
i did it and nothing ,just blank screen asking me to type xwin or xorgwizard .
I did it and again had the same blank screen .
Xwin again restart and finally got what i wanted after two restarts.
Second i can't start "CPU Frequncy Scaling tool"

Personally, I would go
Code:
Xsane --> peasyscan
Wink

Thaks, rcrsn51 for joining us.
I don't think your peasyscan is easier than Xsane maybe because i am already familiar with Xsane.
But there is a big merit that your peasyscan is much smaller than Xsane.
I would like to make more discussion at the Additional Software topic:

Sub_title: no X

Hi shinobar,
have startet wary500j04 with xvesa, changed only language.
loading wary_devx_500.sfs after bootup disabled X totally.
xorgwizard xorg and xvesa failed.

used Xorg -configure
tail /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
Code:
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/, removing from list!
Could not init font path element /usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
(II) CHROME(0): VIALeaveVT
(II) CHROME(0): ViaCursorStore
(II) CHROME(0): VIARestore
(II) CHROME(0): ViaLCDPower: On.
(II) CHROME(0): ViaDisablePrimaryFIFO

Though having started wary500j02 there were offered only savefiles from wary500j04

posting now from wary500j02 with wary500j04/warysave-2.3fs
What is wrong with j04:shock:

ISOMaster-iso-file-editor : need you? Yes, but I can get it per PPM
peasyscan --> Xsane : Xsane is fully localized, most users will need it.
MP-console-editor --> 'vi' command on urxvt : mp looks really nice, but never used it
Pdisk-partition-manager --> 'fdisk' command on urxvt : or cfdisk

Delete the rest Very Happy

xorgwizard xorg and xvesa failed.

Confirmed.
It is because the devx has some file conflicting with the main sfs.
wary500j04 mounts the main sfs at the lowest level and the devx over it. This is the important change of j03 --> j04.

One solution is that we prepare our own devx eliminating the conflict files.
But i think we may be better to revert the initrd.gz to the original.

Thanks L18L for reporting the issue.

So, the Simple Network Wizard works for me in Lupu 5.2 and in Barrys Wary 5 but not the one in Wary 5jp04. No success getting a connection. Uups.

I'm very interested in a NLS-Wary 5!!!

Thanks, shinobar,
mave

I wouldn't remove pmusic from the ISO.
It has so many features, such as burning a playlist
or converting tracks to mp3. I can leave pmusic playing
in the background all day long.

I even made a simple countdown timer out pmusic.

Did you install ftp://ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/puppylinux/pet-packages-lucid/lang_pack_de-lupq-0.2.pet ?
Not very actual, but a good start.
