Commericial DVD won't play in Ogle DVD Player - Wary

#1 Post by mcman56 »

This is my first expereience with Ogle. It will play a DVD recorded on a Sony TV type DVD recorder but will not play or load a commercial DVD. Do I need to load something else?

Nothing extra needed, commercial DVDs should play. Perhaps there is the odd one that cannot be decrypted? All of my collection play ok.

I tried another commercial DVD and it played OK. It looks like it is a DVD specific issue. I did not realize that they could be different.

Sometimes there is DMCA protection on commercially manufactured CDs and DVDs which allows them to play in a DVD *PLAYER* but not in a *COMPUTER* -

I discovered this when a few of the CDs I'd bought off ebay would not play.

Answer? Insert them into a portable DVD drive connected to the machine.

The DVD or CD thinks it's inside a *PLAYER* and I then play it in VLC or whatever...

Worth knowing. An ebay shop / retailer told me about the DMCA restrictions, and I tried my portable DVD-RW drive and have no problems now...
