Failed 2.17 boot at 'Detecting analog modem'

#1 Post by nickdobrinich »

I have 2.16ce installed as a hard disk install on a toshiba satellite 1730 laptop.
Works extremely well.
Problem:
On a Live CD boot of 2.17, the boot hangs at "Detecting analog modem..."
Things of note:
3 serial ports are detected before hang.
Network detect gets to done.
This machine has no external serial ports.
It does have an internal modem.
It has xircom combo modem/network card which works correctly as a network card on 2.16ce.

How can I tell the 2.17 installer to ignore the modem detect and continue with the boot procedure?
Thanks.
Nick

Failed analog modem detect

#3 Post by nickdobrinich »

Hi Van,
I never did get the modem detect to work on this laptop.
At the time I went back to 2.16 which did work.

I have since moved on to other machines and puppies.
Many older PCs are now running Lighthouse Pup 5 which I recommend.

Well what it happens to me is that it says first
"trying to get ip from dhcp" .... done
then it freezes for about 50secs, and then
"detecting analog modem... no modem found" ... done
and then boots normally.

I just want to know if it freezes because of the modem, and I would like to comment that modem detection on the code, wherever it is!

Thanks!
