How to fit web page text to screen width?

#1 Post by Py »

I have just got online with Puppy using dialup and I am impressed.

I only have a 17inch CRT screen. Can I fit website text to that screen width so that I do not have to keep scrolling back and forth sideways when reading on wide text websites? (I can do this using Win 98se and Opera).

Best wishes to all,

I think it depends on which browser you're using, for one thing. Also, just to complicate things, different web pages might have been created with different software and therefore might display differently, especially in different browsers.

The beautiful thing about standards is there are so many to choose from.

Thanks for the response Flash.

Opera for windows has a setting "Fit to window width" and after pressing that, all web text that is browsed is as if it were written for my own screen width. It would take some shifting to get me away from Opera for this facility alone.

Wondering if Opera can be used with Puppy?

enter opera
search in "additional software" ;)
This finds:

By mistake I called it beta, though it is alpha.
But people reported it works good.

The forums also have instructions, how to install the newer betaversion.

yes, Opera runs in Puppy, and the Fit To Width function works too

i don't think Firefox has an extension like this yet

see here
This smart zoom feature needs a important rewrite of the rendering engine of Fx. This rewrite is on-going but won't be ready for Fx 2.0.
Such feature could be expected for Fx 3.0 (early 2007).
also see here and here
