Torrent client in Wary 5.1.1? If not, why not?

#1 Post by Raman »

With regard to Wary Puppy 5.1.1, I can find no torrent client present in the ISO download, and as far as I can tell, the setup of the downloaded pctorrent in Wary 5.1.1 does not produce a working torrent client.

Perhaps I missed finding an installed torrent client in Wary 5.1.1?

Hail Puppy!

Does Wary 5.1.1 have a torrent client, or does it not?

If not, is this not a "bug"?

Can you suggest a PET torrent client that will work in Wary 5.1.1?

raman,
I took out ctorrent and pctorrent because it is reported as broken.

If someone can point me to a nice compact torrent client with GUI PET package, that is tested to work in Wary, I will put it in the next Wary.

transmission 1.50 (7887)

I know it's very old, but this package (in puppy 4, I think...) is the most reliable one I have used, and it is only about 260kb (no intltool deps)..

It works as well, for me (in Puplite and LupQ).. Never doesnt work.

I used later packages, which errored...

EDIT

of course, there is always the PupTransmission, a gtkdialog frontend for transmissioncli... also works well, but can be (more of) a pain when resuming downloads.

I just downloaded the latest Enhanced CTorrent dnh3.3.2 source tarball and whipped up a quick PET with all default settings. Seems to work fine here in Wary 5.1.1. Here it is for anyone that wants to play with it. No additional dependencies needed.

Edit: Note that the default ctorrent uses non-standard bittorrent ports by default (2706, etc). The -p flag should be used to listen on more standard ports like 6881 to 6889

Edit 2: ctorrent is stupid - the -p flag denotes the HIGHEST port to use, not the lowest. That means if your router is set to allow 6881-6889 and you use -p 6881, the first torrent will work, but the next one (assuming the first one is still active) will use port 6880, which is probably blocked by your router. If your router is set for 6881-6889, then you need to use -p 6889
