UnRPM UnDEB PET package

#1 Post by ttuuxxx »

Hi Guys

Basically I use UnRPM all the time and really do think its a shame that it isn't included with puppy as a default application. Oh well anyways whenever I download it from dotpups.de and try to install it, I always get some stupid error and have to remove it from the temp files and manually move it to the correct directories. What a pain. So I just repackage it as a pet package and now it installs painlessly :) enjoy
ttuuxxx

to use it just open a console in the folder where the package is.
type undeb package-name.deb
or unrpm package-name.rpm

unrpm.pet

Hey buddy

It actually undeb's and unrpm's packages, what i'm going to do is included with the Gslapt application, so when you install Gslapt you also get undeb unrpm, which is great I think anyways. :)

Hey Jeff
I needed the sources to add support to a dragNdrop script

I have to have sources for all packages compiled

here is the source code
http://security.debian.org/debian-secur ... .29.tar.gz

http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m ... rig.tar.gz

I know someone else will need it

Joe

Setting unrpm in Puppy 5.2

#6 Post by rincon155 »

In which folder should be placed unrpm to work?
How does unrpm work? I downloaded to My-applications folder, but it does't work. Every time I download a new application, there is an error suggesting to use unrpm. Please advice. Thank you.

hi open a terminal and type unrpm and the full path to the file like
unrpm /root/Downloads/Python-2.7.rpm
first open a terminal and type unrpm with a space
just right click any file and click rename, that will give you the full path.
then copy the name and on the terminal window press the middle scroll wheel on the mouse and that will paste it after the text where you made the space.

Thanks for that ttuuxxx. So much simpler than the way I've been doing it. DOH!

Hi ttuuxxx - was there a reason why this was called just unrpm.pet rather than unrpm_undeb.pet? (handy to have both abilities highlighted).
Also, what would be the chances of having the pet modified so that it set whatever mime types are required to show "undeb" and/or "unrpm" when a deb or rpm file was rightclicked??
(I'm running Slacko 5.6 if that makes a difference)
cheers!

To greengeek & all:

I'm sure ttuuxxx's script was quite useful in its day, and I am personally
grateful to him for it.

But for about a year now, SFR has come up with his wonderful UExtract,
which can unpack rpm, deb and so many other archive formats.

Nice, thanks musher - uextract also managed to extract the post install scripts etc as well as just the directories, which unrpm did not seem to do (unless I was using it wrong which is entirely possible)
