How to install USB HP deskjet 3650

#1 Post by live »

Lupu 525

I tried from the puppy package manager hpijs_print

Then uninstalled and tried the newer from

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 77&t=59015

In both cases when I want for instance to print a document from Iron 10, the HP Deskjet is not in the list of printers.

When you installed the printer, could you print a test page from the CUPS web interface?

Is the problem specific to Iron? Can other applications see the printer?

As a test, I did a fresh frugal install of Lupu 525. I then installed hpijs_print-3.11.3 and Iron-10-Lucid from the repo.

I then did a simulated install of a Deskjet 3650. The printer was visible from all applications.

In LibreOffice>print I have
CUPS-PDF
pdf_writer

In Iron same + print to file

I didn't know for http://www.cups.org/
I made "add New printer", in the model list I didn't see HP DeskJet 3650.
Anyhow I click add.
hp_deskjet_3600 then appears in Iron.
But printer does NOT print.

When I try a test page from http://localhost:631/printers/hp_deskjet_3600
I see status "finished page 1..." but no printer reaction

I don't know what you mean by simulated. You have the actual printer.

Here is what you need to do.

1. Start a fresh install with a new pupsave file. Don't install anything else yet.

2. Install the hpijs printer driver package.

3. Install your printer.

4. Test it from the Abiword word processor.

5. Install Libre Office. Can you still print?

By running the CUPS printer wizard like you have done before. It's in the Control Panel under Hardware. Click on the Administration tab and select Find New Printers. Then follow the next steps.

When done, open the Maintenance menu and print a test page.

I'm not sure if we speak about the same thing, so let's clarify.

From http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 77&t=59015
I saved hplip_scan-3.11.3.pet then dbl clicked for installation.

Then I went on www.cups.org to install my printer.

If I go in System>sys & Config>HardInfo Hardware information
I see under printer hp_deskjet_3600 (not as default)

If i try to print onto hp_deskjet_3600 , no reaction from the printer.

Good idea.

You are installing a printer, not a scanner. You need hpijs_print-3.11.3.pet
Then I went on www.cups.org to install my printer.
Why? What did you do on that website to install your printer? I have explained how to install your printer in Puppy in the post above.

You have installed something. But without the proper driver, it won't work. That's why you need the hpijs driver package.

On your desktop, there is an icon named "Setup". When you click it, you get the Puppy Control Panel. Select the Hardware tab. Select Printer Setup. This loads the CUPS web interface. Select the Administration tab. Select Find New Printers.

If you already have your printer installed incorrectly, you will need to delete it before CUPS can discover it again.

To quick copy, paste

So yes I downloaded and installed hpijs_print-3.11.3.pet.

Printer is on.

If I go in a print menu, no hp_deskjet_3650 appears.

P.S. Sorry if I take time to reply, but 3 critical & urgent cases, including my son in intensive care.

Glad to help. The important idea here is that installing a printer is a two-step procedure.

1. Install the driver package for your particular unit.
2. Run the CUPS setup wizard to install the printer in Puppy.

The printer is connected to my wife's laptop.

I had downloaded to my laptop and just copied the PET, plus the legacy version (just in case), and the foo over there.

I ran the PET but as I recall I need to reboot for CUPS changes to be handled properly - so I am doing that now.

I was uncertain if the foo was needed so I left that out on the first pass.

EDIT

When I send a Test Page:

Deskjet 1000 j110 Series spits out a blank page.

Deskjet 1100 hpijs 3.10.4.16 causes the printer to be stopped.

Deskjet 1100C - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.3 no error but job disappears.

Do I need the foo, or might that break something?

What Puppy version are you using?

Where did you find HPIJS 3.10.4.16?

Her laptop is running Puppy 013.

I am thinking that HPIJS 3.10.4.16 came with printer-scanner-5.sfs

Do you mean Fluppy 013? The page I referred you to covers Lupu/Quirky/Wary.

You will recall from our last episode with printers that Fluppy has significant problems with its printer-scanner-5.sfs. At that time, I believe I directed you to a foomatic-rip package. You will probably need it here too. But since you have now installed multiple packages, it's impossible to say.

Unfortunately, Jemimah is no longer around to support Fluppy.
