i agree Lobater -- example: Opera on Android on the tablet has some really convenient tablet oriented features -- the menu of bookmarks for instance is composed of graphic icons made from a thumbnail snapshot of the page you were on when you bookmarked it. So it isn't a drop down list, it's a page of a matrix of images, and you select the site by clicking on the picture of the site. Looks like a photo proof sheet -- if you're old enough to remember those Wink

I was thinking that we ought to get rid of computers and monitors -- who needs the box-- actually and focus on keyboards. We really need those.

Just put the CPU in the keyboard, and use a pop-up pod to project an image onto the desktop. The physical one, that is. Or a blank piece of paper on it maybe. Course you can "plug" into a similarly smart monitor via IR or wireless, etc, if need be.

Drives ought to be smart and wireless, too.

keyboard pizza with strategically placed pepperoni, or a heat resistant chocolate bar with 102 pieces, ya know something like that....

Edible computers are some way off. However the concept is sound and may be possible when organic computers and nanotechnology are integrated. I look forward to the day when I can spray a plate of nutritious vegetables with instantly programmed 'taste nanobytes' that add a flavour of choice.

Organic nanotechnology should be fun. Shocked

In the shorter term I will start looking seriously at an Android smart phone
perhaps capable of running this suggestion from Nooby

I ended up paying an extra £10 for a black version, with Internet connectivity for 6 months. I use it as a mobile mini computer, pic taking etc.
I also got an Ipad retina display. Just could not resist the power of Apple marketing and E-ink is taking too long to get to market . . .

Presently trying to get Puppy running on an emulated ARM processor . . .

It is interesting to use these emerging technologies and how they apply to Puppy.
I am also surprised at how I use a pad.
Messages are very short - curt almost. I don't like typing on it. Even though it has an excellent keyboard and very good voice recognition.
10 hour battery life is too short (much to my surprise).
Android I felt was very compromised, not much security and the stuff that helps protect is mostly for show.
However Android will and is improving. For example Apple recently added the notification bar first seen in Android.
PARM is our way into tablets and phones.

I recently bought an Android tablet to replace my dieing N800 as an e-reader. I also plan to cut the TV cable soon and setup a computer as a media center which will tie to the 'net. I haven't settled as to using Puppy or Mythbuntu as an OS, but the 7" tablet will also be used as a remote control to stream audio and video throughout my little home. The basic setup is intended to be Android controls media PC which streams media to two stereos and a mobile phone. The media center will also be connected to the TV. The media PC will also serve as a remote data server, but that is the easiest part of the project.

Just reread this thread, hadn't even remembered I'd posted here earlier!

My Android tablet (I was an early adopter) is gathering dust -- hasn't been used in months. In fact just bought a new laptop. Thanks netbooks and tablets for forcing the prices of a good laptop down!!

I spend a lot of time writing documents and doing 3D Cad on the go, in a cafe, or on a jobsite. Or for that matter on the couch. Sitting upright, of course -- if I wanted to lie down and do CAD, well I can't imagine it.

Absolutely pointless to do what I do with less than a 15" screen, plus a keyboard that doesn't insert itself on my image or document plus a good touchpad that isn't also part of the screen.

If I ever do go on a vacation, I'll probably use the tablet. But I don't think one will replace the other. They do different things. One is a high res technical work device. One is an entertainment and messaging device. What's the big deal about coexistance?

I have a big stove, a toaster oven, and a microwave. They don't threaten to eliminate each other, either.
